Thinking about shooting the bowling pin match this Sat. @

    www.monocacypistolclub.com in Frederick @ 10:00am.

I went and checked out a rimfire steel match last Sun. and was asking some questions about the bowling pin shoot.....

I was advised not to use a 9mm due to lack of knockdown power???

The match is rimfire or centerfire pistol so I'm confused. How can a 22lr be ok but a 9mm is not advised?

Help to a pin match noob?

I shoot there a couple times every month. In this thread I posted a some information about pins when someone else was asking about it.

The distance stays the same for 22 and centerfire but where they are placed on the table changes. 2 levels at the front for centerfire and 1 level placed close to the back for rimfire.

I will be there Saturday using a Glock 35 or a .45 1911 for anyone keeping score at home

yep, there're three tables. One for rimfire only and the pins are placed clear along the back edge, so if you tip them they're going off the table.

The other two tables have the pins about 2 feet from the edge, so it takes a pretty solid hit in the center to knock it all the way back and off. If you just tip it it will lay down and can start spinning!

Very fun, have a great time!

Any Monocacy members here? I sent an email to a couple of the addresses on their website, but never heard back. Match says it's open to the public... is there a sign-up or registration, or can you just show up Saturday morning a little early?

    Thanks!

I'm not a member but did shoot at a pin match a few months ago.

    • Private range, but matches are open to public - $5 entry fee
    • Show up 15-20 min early for signup and safety briefing
    • IIRC you can have stock or custom guns, you'll be in a different flight so if you're stock you're not competing against the guy with the red-dot
    • I don't remember any restrictions on using different guns for different rounds, but would guess you need to stay in the same category
    • as you go down the road Monocacy is the second range on the left and there's parking inside the fence on the left. The first range is Cresap.

A member may show up with more info...
