Hi folks,

I've been on here for close to a decade (mostly lurking, but occasionally posting). I spent the last five years writing The Finnish Mosin-Nagant: Three Line Rifle to Ukko Pekka, my magnum opus on Finnish history and small arms collecting. The off the cuff reply would be Doug’s is to kindergarten as Matt’s is to college level.
The information, pictures, etc in the new book are all head and shoulders above Bowser’s
…BUT…

There are a TON more known facts today than when Doug put out his book. He was trying to make intellectual connections from just looking at various examples of rifles he saw - because there wasn’t any source to research.

So I will say his book is just outdated. I own it and enjoyed the read. But now we know things and Matt spent years getting it into book form.

How does this compare to Doug Bowser's books on similar subjects?

I think that @h2u said it best below. Bowser's book is a product of its time (mid-1990s) when formalized collecting knowledge and the internet were in their infancy. I was able translate .a lot of Finnish sources, and work with some archives that other authors have not utilized yet. The only book (technically books) that I would compare it to is Palokangas' three-volume set, which is unfortunately mostly in Finnish.
