I recently purchased a S&W 686. My friend gave me a box of ammo that is made by Speer called Golddot 357 SIG. Doesn't say magnum and the casings are quite a bit shorter then what I had. Anyone know if these can be fired in the 686?? Thanks so much for the help.

I do not think the .357 SIG round would chamber in a .357 magnum revolver. It is a necked down .40S&W round.

I would suggest that you explain to your buddy the differences and explain how "almost the same" isn't good enough when dealing with ammo and guns. there are certain rounds that will fit in the wrong gun and if fired you could have a bad experience. Thanks for asking.
