Can I ask what is the reason you think you need this mic ?
And what do you think it will do for you ?
Are you going to use this in a autoloader or bolt gun ?

I'm looking for a tool to precisely measure cases from base to shoulder and bullet seating length for precision reloading. I expect it to give me starting measurements and then serve as a quality control check.

It's a fine headspace gauge although I'll stick with the Hornady set I have. As for bullet seating, that should be done with the bullet you intend on using and a fired case from the gun. The RCBS tool doesn't do it that way. The Hornady tool, if you make your own modified cases, does.

That's fair enough, but I live in a very populated area. I can't risk an accidental discharge by chambering unproven loads at home.

Loaded rounds ???? Who said anything about chambering loaded rounds for checking headspace ?
We were discussing pushing the shoulder back to get the correct headspace. I use empty fireformed cases to setup my dies.
You never answered about the rifle you are loading for ??? Auto or bolt ??

I understand. Can you tell that I'm new to reloading?

I'm loading for a Rem 700 in .308. Goal is maximum accuracy for 100 to 1200 yards.
