In the compacts HK45C would be my first pick even though its not really that compact. The new G30s is kind of interesting as well.
As far as 1911's go, in .45 I would only recommend a full size. The 3in General styles can be finicky in my experience, and the Commanders aren't much more compact than the full size.

Good enough to be one of my first choices in striker fired .45's, add some Apex parts, and it's a damn good gun for the money.

Ive had my Ruger P345 since early 2006. Have put over 10, 000 rounds through it and never as much as a jam, misfire or fte . Most of that attributes to your ammo but the gun has a good role as well. Always ran remmington fmj rounds.

Hk45c. Best production .45 hands down.

Or if you're on a budget a Glock 21 or 30 would be good, plus you get more rounds in the gun.

Well, there you go - you read it on the interwebs so it must be true

Take it from the owners here and not someone trying to sell a Glock, 1911's are OK, not "problematic"

That was written by a man who drags his 1911 through mud puddles in the world's nastiest shit holes for a living. I doubt you will ever put your gun through anything close to the abuse he is discussing. I assure you, a quality 1911 will be exceptionally accurate and reliable for civilian uses.

I have 4 1911's of all makes form Colt to Kimber....They eat anything you feed them...I also am a Sig guy and like the 220...If you are a plastic guy then you can't go wrong with a XD or Glock. But had them all and had no reliability issues with any of them.

No way, 45 has become my favorite pistol caliber, too many models to choose from. I have a CZ-97, HK USP 45, and Glock 36. I still need to buy a 1911 and I would like a 220 Match Elite.
