I'm looking to get a .22 upper assembly for my palmetto lower. Any suggestions for conversion kits or uppers made specifically for 22?

    Thanks

I got the Tactical Solutions AR-22 SB-X in my Noveske lower as dedicated 22 rifle.
The Bolt in the Tactical Solutions upper are stainless steel so much easier to clean and should last longer.
Since I did not use other brand 22 upper so not sure what kind of Bolt they came with in the upper.

After Zero using Red Dot at 25 yards did 5 shots. Very accurate.

Other way is CMMG brand they are nice, but don't know anything about DPMS brand 22

CMMG Wasp Evolution Upper does look nice

The cheaper way is to get the
CMMG Evolution kit or the India Kit
    http://grabagun.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?caliber=2645&manufacturer=2370&q=CMMG+Evolution

Evolution kit or the India kit (I think it is the replacement of the Evolution kit) is the only way to go if you want to just change the bolt. Many place is out of stock so might have to wait.

Draw back is since it is not a rimfire barrel 1/16 twist and using the 223 1.7 / 1.8 twist etc barrel so accuracy may not be as good.

Another is since rimfire ammo is more dirty, so every so many round of .22LR you shoot, you need to fire a 5.56 to blow out the dirt from the gas tube came from the .22 Rimfire ammo so those dirt won't build up at the gas tube of your AR15.

This guy do very well in his Evolution kit

Just to be clear, a 15-22 Upper would be referring to a S&W 15-22 Upper. And that would NOT fit a standard AR lower, as the 15-22 lower is designed to not mate with a centerfire upper.

You are looking for a 22 Rimfire Upper.

    That is correct.

Just to throw in another variable : If you were specifically interested in using the Aguila 60gr , the fast twist in .223bbl would be better than conventional .22lr bbls. And most users report that the bolt only conversions shoot std .22lr on par with typical plinker , and plenty good for sub cal training. The main issues is with fouling in gas tube.

That's something I'm definitely thinking about. This rifle will be a dedicated 22 setup, but I see pros and cons to getting a 223 with conversion vs 22 barrel. Price wise, they seem to me similar either way...

I have 2 AR15-22s plus a stainless CMMG conversion kit. When I wanted to build a dedicated upper I discoverd that the CMMG kit can be converted to use a dedicated AR .22 barrel also, and many of the barrels come with the piece that needed to be changed out. I wanted a lightweight barrel so I opted for a Taccom alloy sleeved 17" non-threaded one (threaded ones don't seem to be around currently). I also ordered the Taccom carbon fiber handguard and their fixed carbon fiber stock. I put one of my AR lowers with a Geissele SSA triger in it to test. Shot CCI-Tactical and Win Super-X fine. But the SSA trigger does not reset as fast as the Geissele Super 3-Gun and it was possible to shoot too fast and get light strikes and failures to fire. When I slowed down to 1 shot/second it worked 100%. I am going to test it again with the lower from my 3-gun AR which does have the S3G trigger to see how it works. Have only set it up using the red dot I use mainly with my 15-22. I will do some other accuracy testing when I put a scope on it.
I have seen most of the dedicated .22 uppers have issues in competition uses but a lot depends on the total setup. In my experience if all you want is practice, just get the CMMG conversion, but make sure you put a few .223 rounds thru the rifle every 200 rounds or so to keep the gass line open. I found that the CMMG conversion was 100 % reliable such that I used mine on the 2nd day of the the 2012 Ruger Rimfire World Championship plus in the Wounded Warrior charity side match. I had no issues at all with a lower using an S3G trigger.

    What's "junk" about them?

Their Quality Control is nonexistent. After telling a friend to stay away from them due to reviews. He bought one anyway, it jammed everytime he tried to chamber a round. I inspected the gun and noticed a 1/8 inch gap between the top of the feed ramp and the bottom of the chamber. This gap caused each cartridge to turn 90 degrees to the chamber and jam the gun. We were unable to get a single cartridge to load properly.

The one good thing about this purchase is we found a dealer (in VA) that stands behind what he sells. They gave him a full refund.

That's some pretty bad QC. I probably will not be going with Chiappa now. I guess you get what you pay for. This is making me lean towards one if the CMMG kits.

After all these tips, it seems like a CMMG kit is the way to go. Nothing but good things I'm hearing about them... At least for the stainless kits

CMMG makes a good 22lr upper. Another option is Tactical Solutions. I purchased one this weekend from a member here and it runs great. Using Federal bulk ammo I had a two failures to feed out of 200 rounds fired. I think the failures are an ammo problem. I'll try CCI mini mags as suggested by bitterkenny (the seller) today.

That looks totally cool. Midway doesn't have any in stock or know when they will be available. MGW won't ship to Maryland. There are a couple MD dealers listed. Might be time to start dialing.

You can always build one. I built mine around a CMMG stainless bolt, dedicated collar, and custom 4.5" barrel. It runs like a top and eats any ammo I put through it.
