Mr Oni
Military history nut
So just posting this to show what a $199 dollar Vetterli from Rti is like. This is just a wall hanger you can't buy ammo for them anywhere.
Well I am just a caretaker for her. The appeal to me is how much history she has. What stories can a rifle like this tell? I intend to have her cleaned up by some one that knows what they are doing and just display her.Poor old gal is pretty beat. Glad you gave her a forever home.
Honestly I had never heard of them. You have to admit it's very victorian looking. And yep tons of history. A few more years and all of these may have been recycled as scrap metal if Rti didn't get a hold of them. The prices that Vetterli Vitalis go for these days is amazing to me. I picked an 1870/87/15 up at auction years for $80 and figured I overpaid. Turned around almost immediately and sold it to another collector for what I thought was an unimaginable sum for the gun ($225) and never thought twice about it. It was complete and in good shape. I just never got the appeal myself.

Yours is the 1870/87 which is *somewhat* rarer than the 1870/87/15 which seems to crop up more often.
