I’ve got 2- SKS and I’m going to make a trade with a friend of mine. I rarely shoot either one , so my question is which one would you keep
They both have aftermarket stocks on them. That’s the way they were when I got them bout 25 years ago. I’ll attach pics. The Chinese one has a chrome bolt and carrier if that makes a difference. Also we both live in PA

Seems like a toss up, both are missing the original stocks, hurts collector value and interest. Russians tend to bring more though.

They are both Chrome lined. the only Russians that were not are 1949-50 and some 1951's . That one having the star on the left side of receiver should be 1955 and later..

OP, Since they are both non matching but Russian SKS are the "original" i would keep the Russian.

Interesting read, I guess I'll just throw my 1950 Tula out. :o

Keep the 1957 soviet. Find a soviet stock for it -- laminate is appropriate for 1957 DOM-- and it'll be worth covid crazy dollars.

Actually with a proper Chinese stock, the Type56 will.also be worth a lot nowadays. But chinese stocks can be tricky to match to a barreled receiver -- because pinned and threaded barrels each require different stock inletting and it can.be hard to tell the difference between the two types of stocks.from online photos

late to the party but the Russian one is a Tula "letter gun" isnt it? 1957 "И" on the end of the Serial number. Arent they supposed to be worth more than the average commie SKS? Chinese factory 26 guns are good shooters but Id keep the Russian one regardless.

If it helps, my first sighting of those two rifles, together at the Annapolis gun show and had the Chinese going for $89 and the Russian going for $130.

I was going to take everyone’s advice and keep the Russian but that’s the one he wanted and I don’t shoot either any longer anyway. Got a 1,000 rounds of federal 5.56 and 1,000 rounds of Magtech 9mm.
