the AK-74. Looking at Kv-04S..{read the rail is 1/4" offset to right?}.

I would not put that optic on an AK. You really want something lower so you don't have to put a cheek riser on your stock. Any of the side mounted scope rails will push that sight up way over the bore. If you can get a railed handguard with a top rail, get a scout scope and mount that on the rail.

Be careful if you order a side-mount. Some or much lower/higher than others (order whichever you feel most comfortable with based on your optic), and some are offset to the left of the barrel centerline (a European/ComBloc configuration). Be sure to check the configuration of the model you order. You might need to go to multipe websites, and read some forum reviews of the exact model to figure this out; since descriptions vary, and are often inaccurate.

there are side mounts that are low profile now.

I have one on my SGL-21. I like it a lot more than the higher profile mounts I have, but you do need to remove the rail/optic to clean the gun. (shrug) Not a big deal, just saying.

I am using a mount I got from texasweaponsystem.com called a dog leg scope mount. Basically replaces the dust cover with one that locks into the rear sight base to keep it stable. It also allows you to mount the sight closer to the bore.
