Given the current climate I encourage everyone to exercise their First Amendment right to make their voice counted about our Second Amendment right while we still have either of them.

Like many of you I have been promoting and signing various petitions as I am made aware of them and wanted to share a few and hope everyone would take a few moments to review, sign, and share on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

One of the main sites I check daily (Filter by Issue: Firearms)
    https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/

Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms
    http://goo.gl/IYw36

Tell Congress: Support The 2nd Amendment
    http://pages.townhall.com/campaign/2nd-amendment

Please share any others that you may be aware of with your fellow Maryland Shooters. I also suggest if anyone is not a current member of the NRA and/or the Second Amendment Foundation please carefully considering joining.

If the government believes gun free zones are a solution for citizens, the same standard should apply to government servants and employees.

    Another re-post:

how do I get to something that will sign it up with the discount and bass-pro gift card.

Almost everyone in my rifle and pistol club is a member, but I think a lot of my neighbors and anyone who isn't a member could be coaxed with that.

    Is there a link?

Of course the Whitehouse.gov site has managed to block me by resetting the page every time I attempt to set a password. I can't start over because it has entered my Email and every time(dozens) I have them email me the password page it automatically bypasses the page.

If you are unable to reset your password then I would suggest opening a new email account, have that account forward to your existing account, and register at https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/ with the new email address. As a side suggestion you might also be interested in a password tool like https://lastpass.com/index.php or http://keepass.info/

I don't mean to rain on the parade here, but when has a petition actually done anything to change a politician's mind?

I couldn't agree more. I'm under no false illusion that any of these petitions will serve to sway anyone, politician or otherwise, whom have already decided their position.

However, as a means to exercise our First Amendment right, and to raise awareness to the issue I do believe they offer some utility and should not be discounted outright.

The White House petition site in particular is a farce.

While it purports itself as being transparant and a 1A mechanism 'to petition the Government for a redress of grievances', all that is done is cherry-pick the issues that fit their agenda regardless of the 25K threshold. Additionally, your registered name, zipcode, and email are now on record.

Anyone care to join Obama's Enemies List ? I'll admit that this was setup for his 2012 campaign to smear Romney donors, but knowing how much they disregard freedom I would be suspect of them treating a petition neutrally.
