Shore to secede, become "Delmarva"???

I did a little quick research and found that there have been various proposals over the years to have the Eastern Shore secede from the rest of Maryland. The proposal was to join Virginia’s eastern shore and Delaware to form a new state to be called ‘Delmarva’. Apparently Senator Richard Colburn introduced legislation to do this as recently as 1998.

My question for anyone who knows the State and Federal laws on this, is this really possible? Could the Eastern Shore become part of Delaware and what would it take for this to happen? This is something I would LOVE to see! Only bad part would be the huge influx of new residents fleeing Maryland but it would still be worth it.

Vermont and other states have bantered around the idea of Seceeding for decades....nothing has happened....

What!? Are you kidding? The Baltimore and DC urban areas are a virtual socialist paradise! Low crime, no poverty, universal equality... NOBODY, but NOBODY would leave that for the Eastern Shore, are you CRAZY? Moving vans would line up for MILES filled with people trying to LEAVE the Eastern Shore and move to the Baltimore and D.C. urban areas OVERNIGHT!!! Right?

West Virginia seceded from Virginia, so it seems possible.

I believe that "delmarva" would replace Delaware, so I don't know if it would be considered a "new" state. If Delaware simply absorbed the eastern shore of MD and VA would that be legal and what would it require???

I believe (99% sure) that former part (WVa) of Virginia during the War Between The States refused to Secede, by doing so, Lincoln rewarded them by granting them a State Charter.

I think Maryland and Virginia would challenge your definition of what constitutes a new state.

What I was getting at is that we would not be adding a state, there would still be 50 states and that unfortunate District where I am forced to work.

Seems pretty unambiguous to me, unless all three states, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia agreed to this, and Congress approved it wouldn't be legal.

Maryland legislators should be fine with it. It would mean a few hundred thousand conservative voters would no longer be interfering in their socialist process.

We don't need to break off the eastern shore from Maryland, we need to break off baltimore.

Edit: or just change the way their votes are counted, like each county gets one vote regardless of the number of people represented.

I think some Dems would disagree.

But basically, you are not even in the noise level in elections so what you are asking them to do is give up more potential suckers taxpayers for no reason.

Likewise you are asking the shore residents that live in Delaware and Virginia to risk adopting socialist Maryland-style government.
