Back when radial tires were an expensive novelty, all radials were declared to legally be snow tires , for the purposes of Snow Emergency Routes.

The fact that everyone around here isn't prepared and incapable of driving in icy/snowy conditions is the number one reason to keep your snow tires.

Unless, of course, it costs more to ship than it does to just buy a new set.

****I have a dedicated set of snow tires and wheels for my JCW Mini Cooper, and there's no way I could have gotten around last year without them. When you need them, you need them. I drove by, literally, dozens of cars with all season tires, stuck in the ice and snow and not able to make it up exit ramps here in MoCo. I bought some Bridgestone Blizzaks and some cheap wheels, and was amazed at how well they worked. When the 29" snow fell in our area, I was stuck in my home like everyone else on my street, but once the plows went through I had no problems getting to and from work, and felt it was money well spent. The tires really improve one's confidence out on snowy, slushy and icy roads. If you drive reasonably, as long as you have ground clearance, it's night and day from all seasons to dedicated snow tires. I would buy them again in a heartbeat.

This is exactly what I did with my Tacoma. I got the steel wheels off ebay for less than $100 and got the Blizzaks on a good sale at Sam's club. :party29:

I simply run all season radials. I haven't bought snow tires in 30 years. If it's that bad that I would wish I had them, I'm staying in by the fire anyway.

Very important to know the limits of your vehicle as well the tires.....
Equipment is very important. It can be very frustrating as well under a stressful situation.

Mazda CX-5 AWD currently. I will be working for the State Govt in Annapolis. Non-essential employee, I'll be able to work from home if the weather sucks.

I will be driving up to NH/VT to ski and ice climb at least once or twice a winter, but that seems to be pretty low usage to bother moving them 2000 miles. Looks like they're going up for sale.

I will state this much, the OEM Toyo A23's (CX-5 Grand Touring) are not great in the snow.

Back in the rear wheel drive New England days we did snow tires. Good all season tires and 4 wheel drive make snow tires unnecessary in MD.

...50/50 as to whether or not the driver is texting and/or applying makeup at the time.

When I lived in Lanham I was stuck in traffic beside a young lady who was putting on her pantyhose while she was driving in
bumper-to-bumper traffic. No snow that day, but I was still glad to have my 4wd pickup.
