Do any of you folks know what the going rate is for twenty foot shipping containers up in the Hagerstown/Frederick area? I didn't know where to post this so I put it here in Preppers.

About $2,000 delivered, $500 more if you want the high cube.

You can probably get them cheaper but they will likely be in bad shape.

Though he lives in the midwest, brother picked up six containers for about $2K each and they are in pristine condition. New containers come here full of Chinese goods and since we export far less than we bring in, they're one trip and done, then sold off.

Containers are sold in 'new', 'single trip' and 'wind and water resistant'. As they all come from China, even the 'new' ones have a single trip on them, the only difference is that the single trip may have scuff marks, staples and nail-holes from shoring.
The 'wind and water resistant' ones are what the shipping companies purge from their fleet.
Due to the asymmetry you describe, there is a good supply of 'single trip'.
20ft are not much cheaper than 40ft as there is less of a glut.
