Any opinions on the Mount Airy Isaac Walton League? A guy at my gym that I talk firearms with is a member and he suggested that I join. He said he’d sponsor me so I have that part taken care of if I decide to join. Is it a pretty good club?
I've been a Mt. Airy IWLA member for a decade. Boy have we come a long way. I shoot mostly pistol and rifle, and occasional skeet. First rate facilities for all three. Let me know if you have any questions.Any opinions on the Mount Airy Isaac Walton League? A guy at my gym that I talk firearms with is a member and he suggested that I join. yup yup. The Clown is to sponsor me there.****Personally, I would do IWLA-WAC Damascus. It is a very active chapter and has really nice ranges and events. Go check them both out as I did and decide what works best for you.
Hey, do your own thing.Izaak Walton is one of the national groups behind the push to outlaw lead ammunition. See this article about Minnesota https://news.yahoo.com/lead-ammo-ban-mn-could-015105116.html
I’ve been a member of IWLA WAC for over 10 years. But after reading that the IWLA is a bunch of Fudds looking to disarm folks by outlawing lead ammo, I won’t be renewing my membership. I’ll be heading to AGC instead. I’ll also be actively advocating against the IWLA.
“to conserve, maintain, protect and restore the soil, forest, water, and other natural resources of the United States and other lands; to promote means and opportunities for the education of the public with respect to such resources and their enjoyment and wholesome utilization”.
It’s pretty obvious IWLA doesn’t care about the 2A. To me, that’s the first point in the Fudd starter kit. Very disappointed in the IWLA over this. And yes I will be taking my money elsewhere. IWLA can KMA.Hey, do your own thing.
I've been a member there for over 24 years and as a 'Rockville' member before that. The IWLA has been a conservation organization since its conception. WE may be a diverse group, but I assure you, we are not all FUDDS. Take your money elsewhere if you want, that's your prerogative. We are not a 2A rights organization. We have many members who neither own nor shoot firearms. Ultimately our goal is to be good stewards of our environment:
If you joined thinking you were joining a gun club, you were either misinformed or ignorant(no offense intended).
That's fine. Like I said, IWLA is not a gun club. It’s pretty obvious IWLA doesn’t care about the 2A. To me, that’s the first point in the Fudd starter kit. Very disappointed in the IWLA over this. And yes I will be taking my money elsewhere. IWLA can KMA.

Does this group of conservationist support lead ammo hunting bans? Seems as if they are 2A oriented but 2A is not about hunting and supporting ammo bans if true proves it beyond doubt.****IWLA is primarily a conservation organization. They do have rifle, pistol, and shotgun ranges at many/most of their chapters. It is quite harsh to say they don't care about the 2A when they have literally trained thousands of people pre/post Bruen to get the W&C carry permit, and several of the local chapters teach dozens of NRA courses every single year including Basic Pistol, Rifle, PPIH, PPOH, RSO and other classes that directly increase the number of people with knowledge on the safe and proper use of firearms.
Several MDS members here on this very site have gotten their HQL, and W&C training requirement through Izaak Walton's classes throughout the area (some have taken their instruction from me..as I am an instructor, and I have taught well over 1000 people over the last 10 years in mostly NRA type classes but also Hunter Qualification and numerous safety classes for Boy Scouts, etc...). Most chapters very much encourage members to join the NRA and other organizations directly involved with 2A.
I have no clue where you got the idea IWLA doesn't care about the 2A when so many of us IKE's directly contribute to the 2A by teaching, running events, Veterans Appreciation Day, Cowboy Action Shoots, Defense Pistol Shoots, Junior air rifle and .22 education programs, etc.. and we have more than several members directly involved with community outreach in addition to our conservation efforts to get more people into the shooting sports.
The Damascus Chapter alone has well over 1600 members now, and is a very active chapter with many different components, including several members directly involved with helping design new ranges throughout the country as well as being some of the officials involved in maintaining the safe operation of ALL ranges in our area which require regular inspections and approval from the County and State to remain operational.
But please, let us know what *you* have contributed to showing you care about the 2A other than posting here, and taking your $155 a year renewal membership fee "somewhere else".

Surely this would have come up at one of the meetings so the membership would remain informed.
I think thats whats so upsetting to the concerned individual.
Maybe its working with the state to remain operational with required inspections and the surrounding politics that is concerning to some of the current membership, or potential candidates.
