Actually, the San Andreas fault runs along the coast for much of the state before heading out to sea...so, when the big one hits, only the coastal areas in southern and central California will get schwacked, leaving much of the state untouched.

Coincidentally, these are the most liberal areas, so California's political alignment will improve accordingly...Winning!
