My buddy William and I hit the range this afternoon. I took my 1964 S&W and he brought along two of his classics- a nickel 1972 Colt Detective Special and a blued 1972 S&W Model 15-2.

Admittedly, William was not the best shot right out of the gate. He doesn't have much handgun experience, but once he got the hang of the sights he was doing just fine. His groups were getting tighter and tighter as we went on, but we ran out of ammo before he could really shine. I think if we had another box of ammo, he would have been hitting bullseyes in no time. He really did well with the 4 inch Smith. I explained to him that the longer barrel was better for accuracy that a 2 inch DS.

Here are some photos. In the last photo, I took some advice from my mentor Fivepointstar. I focused on the front sight only. I took off my glasses. I got five out of six pretty much on top of each other, at the bottom of the center ring. FPS- thank you for the instruction. I am eternally grateful. I now get it.

Nice shootin'--both of you. If you get to the range once or twice per month (more is better), you'll be shooting 3" groups in no time. Remember the fundamentals, and always practice them (safety, stance, grip, sight picture, breathing, trigger control, follow-through). Just like a golf pro hitting a ball, shooting is a complex synergy of large and small muscles working together to create a repeatable process and result.

Thanks. This has been a long time coming for me. There was a time where I could not hit the side of a barn......from the inside. I enjoy shooting for accuracy now.

Looks like you had some nice toys to play with. My friend went to the range today but we were only shooting a Ruger Mark II and a Glock 19. Still, a good time was had by all.
