Transfer the gun but not the mags?

Heading up to PA in a couple of weeks. If I bought a hand gun with a 12 round mag, could the dealer just sell me the handgun and send to FFL here for transfer and then let me buy the magazines from him there while in PA and just bring them back to MD? The way I understand it, that is compliant. Am I wrong?

Nope. Not wrong at all. You could also buy the handgun in MD and use the FFL transfer fees and shipping to go to another state and buy standard capacity mags.

You are correct. That's how it should happen with a knowledgeable non-MD dealer. You pay for the handgun and mags and leave with the mags.
