In a move sure to stop murderers from ever again killing in Canada, Trudeau has just “frozen” all handgun sales and transfers nationwide.

One senses that confiscation will naturally be next on his hit list as soon as someone uses a pistol for something naughty anyway.

Our own domestic leftists will be aching to follow his wise example. I expect this will be the new “see, even Canada understands!” talking point.

But their executive has the power to ban all transfers…

They will just have to pound sand, as their pet issue will be ignored by legislators who prefer to remain in office instead of retiring with their "principles" intact. (As if they had any besides re-election!)

True. But along with a lot of other things they always used to want - but would never say out loud because they knew it would never fly in most of the country - they are now saying out loud the things they think will solve this pesky liberty problem. They know Heller -> Bruen takes all the fun out of directly going after the guns. So they're now hungering to go after that which protects liberty. To wit, their murmuring about packing the SCOTUS is bubbling up again (mostly, I think, in the context of the mid-terms, and trying to dangle that prospect out there in hopes it will get out more of the far left vote to preserve the senate for just such purposes). They talk ever more sincerely about how the entire constitution - especially that annoying Bill of Rights - should be torn down, but in the meantime simply ignored - because it was marinated in slavery, blah blah blah. That's the most dangerous current school-years indoctrination: that the constitution means nothing because the nation wasn't perfect at the time it was ratified. All with an eye towards ruining the underpinnings, and just making things like Bruen go away in a puff of smoke, rather than through persuasion and debate.

They're realizing that they're not going to get 37 states to join them in properly amending away protections of liberties. And that they MAY have a hard time ever getting SCOTUS (as currently populated, or even as they'd most like to see it in the next decade or so) to simply wave away rulings like Bruen. It's not like Roe, which was built on sand.

Except they've already had opportunities to jettison him, and have chosen not to. Canada's problem is like Maryland's. The urban areas of places like Montreal and Toronto are their version of Montgomery County. Population, money, entrenched swampy leftists in numbers that make the rest of the place's population irrelevant during elections. We sure know that feeling.
