I received this bolo/machete from my grandmother many years ago. I recently took it out of storage and I have been thinking of ways to preserve it. These seem to be fairly common since I see lots of them for sale on Ebay in the $50-150 range. I'm not interested in selling it, but would like some information on the best way to keep it preserved.

From what I can tell, these were issued to USMC hospital corpsman during WWII.

The edge is not too bad and should only require some wet stone work if I wanted to start using it. My main concern is the scabbard. Is there a specific type of leather treatment product I could use? In some of my research some people recommend using saddle leather restoration creams. I'm not looking to change the patina of the blade or the scabbard. I'm mostly interested in preservation.

    Thanks in advance

    The stories it could tell.

I hope our edged weapon aficionados can chime in on this piece and others like it.
