Can anyone tell me if the Utah permit is good in Colorado? I have received mixed messages. I have been told if you are a Utah Resident the permit is good, but not excepted of you have a Utah Non Resident.

Utah and Colorado have a reciprocity agreement, but contained in the agreement is language that they will only accept resident permits. A Utah non-res permit is no good in Colorado.

IANAL - Open Carry & Vehicle Carry are your options in Colorado (No Open carry in Denver but vehicle carry is good). UT only works for concealed carry if you are a UT resident.

    Vehicle Carry
18-12-204. Permit Contents - Validity - Carrying Requirements.
    (3) (a) a person who may lawfully possess a handgun may carry a handgun under the following
circumstances without obtaining a permit and the handgun shall not be considered concealed:
    (I) the handgun is in the possession of a person who is in a private automobile or in some other private
means of conveyance and who carries the handgun for a legal use, including self-defense.

Open Carry is legal in Colorado with exceptions. Places as listed in the “Places Off Limits” above apply to
those who open carry. Those who open Carry also have more restrictions than those with a Concealed Carry
Permit/License. Public Transportation is off limits to those who Open Carry. (See 18-9-118) When open
carrying, be prepared for Police Officers to question you as open carrying firearm gets their attention. See the
“RV/Car Carry Without a Permit” section for carrying in a vehicle. Denver won a court case stating it can
control Open Carry in Denver and Open Carry is illegal in Denver. Other cities have banned Open Carry on
their city owned property. The Minimum age for Open Carry is 18.

Updates are made only when there is a change to Colorado's permit reciprocity with other states. Regardless of the date of the last update, this information is current.

Pursuant to Colorado law (CRS 18-12-213), the State of Colorado will recognize a valid permit issued in another state IF the permit was issued to a resident of the state issuing the permit, and the permit tee is 21 yrs of age or older, AND the other state recognizes Colorado permits as valid in their state. Hence, a "yes" in the following table also indicates that a valid Colorado permit is recognized in that state, subject to their laws. When traveling with a Colorado permit, it is advisable to contact the state you are visiting to confirm reciprocity and to review that state's firearms laws.

The state of Colorado no longer recognizes the validity of any permit issued by any state to a nonresident of that state (see C.R.S 18-12-213 amended 2007), specifically they must be a resident of the state that issued the concealed handgun permit and must be in possession of a valid drivers license or identification card issued by that same state.

This is a perfect demonstration of the ridiculousness of gun control laws. The politicians of Colorado would rather I open carry a scary weapon than carry concealed when visiting. What difference does it make? :sad20:

It's been said before, but always best to go to the source (the state) for CURRENT answers to carry permit and other firearms laws questions. That way, there's no 'mixed messages' to be had.
