2. VCDL’s injunction exempting 18 to 20-year-olds from Universal Background Checks on handguns extended!
The VCDL/GOA lawsuit injunction against 18 to 20-year-olds having to do a background check for a handgun purchase from a private citizen has been extended until June 30, 2022.
Without this injunction, 18 to 20-year-olds would not be able to purchase a handgun from a private seller. Since they can’t purchase a handgun from an FFL under federal law, they would be locked out of being able to purchase a handgun at all until they turn 21.
3. Lame duck Northam budgets 27 million for “gun violence center”
Northam has allocated $27 million for a center on “gun violence.” Limiting the center to gun violence and not violence in general sounds like nothing more than a bone being thrown to Bloomberg and paid positions to attack the rights of gun owners being handed out to political friends (Lori Haas or Andrew Goddard, for example).
The Center working on the general issue of violence could be useful by:
finding more and/or better ways to prevent suicides
finding better ways to intervene with troubled youth, before they join gangs, etc., and become violent predators
studying the effective use of firearms, tasers, pepper balls, and other means of intervention to minimize the injury and death caused by violent individuals
developing school curriculum to teach that violence is not how problems or disagreements are solved and to teach respect for fellow citizens

4. Waste of time in Virginia Beach: gun buy-up
Virginia Beach is doing a gun buy-up (not a gun buyback, as the media misreports) on Saturday, December 18. It is not being funded by the City, but City police will be collecting the guns, which will be destroyed (permissible under a law change by the Democrat majority).
Criminals are not going to turn in their guns – they can get more for them on the black market. What will be turned in is mostly junk-guns, which are legally owned and not “from the street,” that somebody wants to get rid of at a good price. They can then use the funds to purchase a better gun from a dealer. The amount of the gift cards varies from $25 to $250, with no indication of which guns get the higher values and where the gift cards are going to be accepted.
I had to laugh at the naivete of this statement from the story:
"Our aim is to provide the proper and safe disposal of firearms of all kinds. We are very much aware that gun buyback programs are not the ultimate answer to gun crime, but we hope it can be a start in getting “unwanted” guns off our streets and ensuring a safer community…"
It's not going to affect crime one iota and guns “on the street” are not going to be turned in. Legally owned junk guns, or maybe a few decent guns that someone doesn’t know that they can easily sell to a gun dealer and get much more money than what is being offered, are all that is going to get turned in. In some of these buy-ups, there have been homemade “guns” made from piping bought at Lowes or Home Depot for the purpose of making some money at the buy-up. ;-)

VCDL and GOA filed a lawsuit against the federal bump stock ban based on the fact that the BATFE overstepped its authority in falsely declaring bump stocks a machinegun.
We won the case in a federal court. It was appealed to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals where we lost in a three-judge panel. We appealed it for an en banc hearing. The en banc panel tied 8 to 8! That means the three-judge panel’s ruling that the BATFE was correct was reinstated. This is now headed to the U.S. Supreme Court. We’ll advise as the lawsuit moves through the system.

9. Spotsylvania woman murdered after just being granted a protective order
Sadly, a protective order is just a piece of paper and won’t stop or even slow down someone who wants to harm another. Back when McAuliffe was in office the Republicans put a bill on his desk that would have made a protective order a temporary, 45-day CHP. McAuliffe vetoed the bill. Saving lives didn’t seem to be all that high on his priority list.
