Not sure how many watched online. The panel steered clear of suggesting more gun control as an answer to the uptick in violence in Portsmouth and Norfolk. Instead the panel’s focus was on actually solving the problem instead of giving some gun-control platitudes and walking away. Solving the problem isn’t going to be easy, but the effort to do so is sincere. Trying to catch people on the wrong path early on and turning them around is an example of what the panel discussed. 2. Safety alert: Ruger SR22 Ruger has issued a safety bulletin on the popular SR22 pistol: In rare instances, if the left and right frame inserts of Ruger SR22 pistols are not properly secured together, the firing pin blocker lifter and hammer block can move independently of each other, potentially rendering them ineffective. If this situation occurs, the pistol will intermittently exhibit a "slack" single-action trigger and has the potential to discharge if decocked over a live round. NOTE: A "slack" single-action trigger occurs if, while operating the pistol in single-action mode with a magazine inserted, the slide forward, and the manual safety disengaged, a trigger pull does not encounter resistance and the hammer does not fall. Although only a very small number of pistols appear to be affected, Ruger is committed to safety and would like to examine all SR22 pistols that have ever exhibited a slack single-action trigger or discharged upon decocking. If you experienced either condition, please immediately stop using your SR22 and return it to Ruger for this Safety Retrofit. If you have not experienced either condition, your pistol is not subject to this Safety Bulletin unless one or both of these conditions occur in the future. Action item: contact your representative and urge them to co-sponsor the repeal of the Gun-Free School Zone Act Contact your Congressman to support H.R. 7415, which repeals the federal Gun-Free School Zone Act. This would allow states to decide for themselves how to handle schools. The current law is an unconstitutional overreach by the federal government. Here is more information about H.R. 7415: https://massie.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=395446 The contact information for Virginia’s Congressional Representatives is here: https://www.congress.gov/search?q=%7B%22member-is-current%22%3A%22Y%22%2C%22source%22%3A%22members%22%2C%22congress%22%3A%22117%22%2C%22member-state%22%3A%22Virginia%22%2C%22chamber%22%3A%22House%22%7D Click on the member’s name to get their contact information. 4. Even BATFE cannot verify their OWN claims on “ghost guns” Oh, gee, say it isn’t so! https://www.ammoland.com/2022/04/not-even-atf-can-verify-atfs-ghost-gun-claims/ 7. [CA] Opinion article in California says California gun-control laws have failed Opinion piece in the Times of San Diego confirming what those of us who have been paying attention to gun-control laws already knew: gun-control laws don’t lower the crime rate. (In fact, they have the opposite effect.) https://timesofsandiego.com/opinion/2022/04/06/mass-shooting-in-sacramento-shows-californias-gun-control-laws-have-failed/ 8. Member suggests another item used to treat a bullet wound Member Ken S. sent me this: In Iraq we carried tampons in our personal trauma kits -- perfect for plugging and sealing round bullet wounds. As it soaks up the bleed, it expands and 'plugs' the wound. I carry them in my range bag which is always in my truck. |
