    Some of these people. Wow.

On Monday, a 43-year-old Texas man was stopped while carrying a semiautomatic handgun at an entrance to the U.S. Capitol Visitor's Center. A police report said the man told officers he didn't know the gun was in his bag. He'll face a series of charges, including possession of an unregistered firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of a high-capacity feeding device.

    Triple whammy!

I have family from the south who carry everywhere and when they have come up here they just assumed their rights still applied, crazy idea, I know. We had to tell them we were glad they carried and wished they could do it here but despite a low chance of being caught the consequences are too high to risk.

On Wednesday, a Washington, D.C., man pleaded guilty to a criminal charge, weeks after he was stopped with a semiautomatic handgun, loaded with 9-millimeter ammunition, at a checkpoint to the Longworth House Building. The police report said the man, at first, claimed the gun belonged to his wife, before he later told officers he'd purchased the gun "on the street" for $600 to protect his family.

It is cheaper to go this route than to do it legally, let alone the waiting, even assuming a Hi-Point C9:

    Purchase
    Hi-Point C9 MSRP: $219
    Sales Tax: $13.49
    MSP Background Check Fee: $10
    HQL Class (Worth a $hit): $75
    Fingerprinting Fee: $54.50
    MSP Application Fee: $50
TOTAL: $421.99 - that's just to purchase the firearm

    Carry
    W&C Class: $300
    Fingerprinting Fee: $54.50
MSP Application Fee (as of now): $75
TOTAL: $429.50 - that's just to carry the firearm

So if you purchase the gun and then get a W&C, you're at $851.49 to legally purchase and carry a Hi-Point C9 without a holster.

Now I know someone will say "but you can get a free HQL with a W&C permit." If we remove the additional fingerprinting fee ($54.50), HQL class ($75), and MSP HQL application fee ($50), we're still at $671.99 to legally purchase and carry a Hi-Point C9 (no holster) with a "free" HQL. That's sickening and out of reach for many people.

Yup, the consequences are quite severe.

There's also this to keep in mind: https://www.uscp.gov/visiting-capitol-hill/official-business/law-enforcement-personnel

NOTE: The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, H.R. 218, does not apply within Congressional Buildings or on U.S. Capitol Grounds. Therefore, retired law enforcement officers may not carry weapons on U.S. Capitol Grounds.

You need to use a holster for carry in DC.

Would a pocket holster would be OK?

So these were normal folks, presumably not intending to commit violent crimes, but just guilty of having a firearm without the proper permit, and trying to take said firearm into a prohibited place. Definitely ignorant or defiant of the law. Are the same laws applied equally to the local indigenous population who commit the same offenses?

You probably already know the answer.

If I remember my DC carry class correctly, at the US capitol visitors visitor center it would be illegal to carry even with a DC wear and carry permit.

Odd how no organization has taken this up and how it disproportionately affects the under privileged. Obama gave 'em phones so it only seems fitting that FJB gives 'em guns no?
