Mostly use a 300 BO last few years, but I'm finding its just too short range. 150 yards shots is just too far.

    Over the years:

    223. Mixed results. Some run, sometimes bang flip.

    25-06. Killing machine

    308. Does fine, just boring

300 BO. Keep your shots short

44 mag. Short range, big cool factor.

12 gauge. Not as impressive as I would hope. But got the job done.

Want to hear what gives you BANGFLOP every time you hit the spot.

Mostly 100gr broadheads. But, .308 or 30-06 in rifle season. Both of those do the trick every time. I'm good if boring means a quick drop and shorter drag.

You must shoot on the ES or Out West to be taking a deer at over 150 yards.

Sold my last one to a friend that needed it more than me, but my .35 Whelens have always been effective for whitetails. Probably going to use a .243 for the Sika Deer down in the swamp, just becuase it's lightweight and because I can load relatively light bullets for quick expansion.

Haven’t gotten a chance to use my 100gn broadheads here in MD. But out in Oregon, my 6mm Rem and 30-30 were my goto’s.

I've taken several out in western MD that have been really far, but you actually have to work for long shots. Last one was killed bedded down at 392 yards with a .30-06 AI, never got up. Others were taken between 400 and 600 with my 6.5-300Wby. Marc357 here took one at just past 800 with his .300WinMag match gun.

That's amazing. I have never taken one over 100 yards in MD so my old thuty-thuty AI was perfect for the job.

Did you used to run a long in distance shooting class in VA?

    Impressive!

Yup, power lines in some spots, plus I used to shoot ridge to ridge in the snow with a precision rifle and laser rangefinder. Had a spot just outside Accident with crop damage permits and a 400 acre field that was good for some long shots too.

I will say I've killed dozens inside 75 yards working the overgrown clear-cuts and bumping bedding areas on hillsides.

My 30-30 is my go to. I use it in the mountains at my place in WV and also used it hunting my FIL’s farm in Carroll County. By far my favorite gun to hunt with.

Bought a 243 when I started hunting in my backyard and now my son has taken over using. Great hunting rifle as well.

Any chance this was on the Wings of Challenge property?
