This was my grandfather's, maybe his from the war (WWII). What was it for? Sunglasses in for size reference.

Was he a paratrooper? The big one looks like a Thompson SMG case if I’m thinking guns. But it looks kind of small too with the sunglasses there.

Not military as others have said, but it's still old and really cool. I'd recommend treating that leather with some leather conditioner. It's pretty dry and cracked but probably salvageable.

Its a common for the time case for a breakdown gun so it could be for the Remington, most of the cases were marked for barrel length.
It wouldn't have come from Remington but might have come from the shop that sold it with the Remington.
I have a very similar case made by Brauer Brothers of St Louis and the manufacturers label says Pump or Double Barrel Shotguns Barrel Length 26"

Yes for a shotgun I inherited one from my grandfather and the side pouch is for shotgun ammo which is why it is so wide.

OK, I have one. I found it unpacking, no idea where it came from, probably belonged to my dad. Is this just a memento or does it have some purpose? Seems too small to have anything to do with measuring drinks, for example.
