A friend found this while going through some of her father's old stuff.

I'm not really into antique stuff. So I wasn't much help.

What is it? What is it worth? Or where could she go to get it appraised?

    She's out near Westminster.

All it says on it is: "E. Remington & Sons ILION, NY 10/21/1873"

If both sides look that nice, then that nickel-plate has held up very well.

I will say that looks like a crack running from that sharp corner behind the cylinder.

Not a crack exactly, it's where two edges come together. They're well-fitted so it looks clean. It's not broken.
