Due to the price of meat no one was buying pork butts at giant. It went on that “Buy it today or we throw it away tomorrow 50% off sale”. I bought all 4 they had left. My smoker is gonna put in work.

So why aren't people buying pork butts given the price of meat these days? We were at Costco last week and whole pork loins were $1.99/lb and whole pork shoulder was $2.35/lb.....which after we talked about it was kinda scary....because that's less per pound than most of the fresh vegetables we were buying so if they are selling it that cheap how much does it cost to produce, what are they feeding these pigs and what kind of hormones or drugs are they feeding them.

I'm hitting up the freeze dried and dehydrated stuff on Amazon today. Got some eggs for a decent price.

This is actually "normal" food for me because I will take it to the Undisclosed Location on trips when I'm by myself.

Powdered eggs are only good if they develop that green tinge while inside an aluminum insert of a Mermite can.

Well, if it's the pork factory the ChiComs bought they could be feeding them dead dissidents.

I read a story about how beef suppliers will flood the market with cheap red meat right before the shortages come. Basically they can't afford to feed their herds so they sell all of them at once and drive the price down before it skyrockets. Perhaps something similar is occurring with pork since Cali nuked the pork industry there.

Not saying it’s not going to happen (this is the prepper forum after all), but pork was really cheap during the Shamdemic too. Pigs and goats can basically eat garbage and still be relatively healthy to eat (better than paydays anyway) and taste okay, so I am not too worried. Plus people seem to struggle with cooking pork properly. Seems to keep demand down, which keeps prices low.

That said if the glut of red meat happens, we are probably in for a rough winter.

I went to purchase some peanut butter at my local Food Lion. None to be found. I wonder if this has to do with farmers price to harvest (i.e. diesel fuel).
There was a huge recall. Supply has not caught back up with demand.

The real issue is a confluence of circumstances that are causing a global vegetable oil shortage. This impacts peanut oil which are likey fetching higher prices to be used in other ways than peanut butter.

global vegetable oil shortage is a perfect storm of weather and political events. Charlebois says cooking ingredients like canola oil, sunflower oil and palm oil tend to be taken for granted, and shortages of those things always take us by the most surprise.

    Now in Tennessee ,
With HR 1808 on the horizon and my lack of faith in all the RINO's I ordered more std cap mag's for my AR's and Glock's and some I don't have guns for yet. If you have friends or family out of state to receive them it's wise to stock up

Curiously, olive oil and grapeseed oil have been in abundance and on sale frequently at various grocery stores.

Anticipating a global natural gas spike in cost this winter and unusually low winter temps so bought some good -30 sleeping bags in case we need to turn down the thermostat or don’t have gas for the furnace.
