Don’t get out much but went out on the annual wife’s family charter for rockfish on Sunday, super tough, had a flurry of action in the first 15 minutes a little after daylight boating 3 then had 1 hit 10 min later but Uncle lost it, not another hit and headed back in at 2

    That I know. Cool.
I used to guide from dam 3 down to Brunswick back when I was young. Most of my fishing up thst way happened in winter/early spring.
Did you guide with Ken Penrod? The area above dam 4 is starting to have a decent population of flathead catfish too. I generally avoid those stretches during the summer due to all the pleasure boaters and jet skis.

No. I used to guide for Mark Kovach but that ran from dam 3 down to Brunswick. I mostly worked with him at his fly fishing schools. Thurmont in early spring and then we would move the school to Bolivar in the summer.

That was a looooong time ago. Lol

We went vertical jigging light tackle for rock today on the choptank. It's the first time we've tried it. We got into some schoolies, and I ended up with 7 in about two hours. A 7' medium rod with a 2500 spinning reel is a blast.

That’s a fun way to catch them for sure!

Was out on the lower Potomac yesterday. Went out early with my buddy and we got skunked. Came in and grabbed lunch, went back out with my buddy and his neighbor on his boat. Within one minute of putting in the first line over the side in the afternoon we landed a 21” keeper Rock. Marking fish the rest of the day but no more Rocks. Caught three ribbon fish which we tossed back.
Weird day, no birds hitting the water at all. Tons of baitfish around too but no striper activity.
Going to try again in three weeks.

The ribbon fish are supposed to be great eating. I haven't caught one since I learned that so I haven't been able to try myself, but I plan to eat the next one I catch.

I heard that too but we elected to toss them back. Next time we won’t.
