I bought a pound of Winchester WSF powder (I got excited that Bass Pro had anything) looking to reload 38 Special but can't find a recipe. Does anyone have a recipe for this or would like to trade (Clays, Trail Boss, etc.)? Thanks.

WSF is not economical to shoot in the 38 Spl but I have done it since I also used it in Shotguns. Here is one of the loads I found.

"The Speer #13 lists their 125gr Gold Dot with 5.3 gr of WSF, CCI-500 @1
.470" OAL as a std 38 spcl load."

    Regards,

    John

    Done

I will trade a pound of unique for it, I use WSF in 12ga loads

    Hi Rich,

I'll take you up on that offer and give you a call tomorrow, thanks! Also, I've been playing around with that AR Comp with mostly good results. I'm primarily loading 223 Remington for my Mini-14 using Nosler 55gr Varmageddons and got some really nice groupings after I got the scope sighted in, lol. Just picked up a box of Hornady ZMax at Bass Pro and think they will perform the same as they are nearly identical to the Nosler.

Hi Shaddydan, I checked the Winchester website for the data but they have nothing listed for 38 special with WSF powder. :sad20:

Sorry, I didn't research first. And I stand corrected, it is hogdens site for Winchester, hogden, and imr.

You're lucky they even have any data for WST. The WSx powders are considered "shotgun only" and Hodgdon/Win are not going to spend time testing loads for handguns.
    1) There are no recipes. There is load data. All loads must be worked up from a safe starting load
    2) There is no data without some information about the bullet being used.

The Winchester loading manual 14th Edition (1995) has pistol loading data for WSF, WSL and WST. They have WSF loads for 9mm and higher, including .38Super, .40 cal, 10mm, .45ACP, but for .38 Spec only WST is listed (of the three powders mentioned earlier). I used to use WSL and WST in .45 quite a bit; they are fine powders. I think they have been discontinued, though.

I reload all of my .38 Special and .357's with Hodgdon HS-6. Very nice powder to work with. Super clean and the last bottle I bought was $24.99 at Fred's in Waldorf. I'll check that price again this weekend when I go over to get some more Clays for my shotshells. Curious to see if the prices have changed any in 3 weeks.
