1.trigger job-in fact the only real problem with the gun
2.night sights for defense, truglo front/solid black rear for competition
    3. solid guide or brass insert for factory guide rod and assortment of recoil springs, the gun is already heavy, and a couple ounces more up front tames recoil even more, but slows the pistol down in transition, with an assortment of springs you can pick the weight that functions best with a particular load, less recoil, better function, especially handy with conversion barrels.
    4. EFK or storm lake 9mm conversion barrel and XD(M) 9mm mags-lighter recoil, cheaper practice, and lighter caliber for matches that don't have a penalty for minor calibers. You can alway throw the 40 cal barrel back in if you need a major caliber, or need the extra punch for defense.

Mine is heading out to powder river for a 3# trigger job and a carry treatment on the grip. imho, the trigger is the only thing that I think really needs to be improved upon to make it a great shooter. The current weight of the gun and the grip style make it very tame in the muzzle flip department with the .40.

I do like the guide rod and spring suggestion but don't think they are necessary to make it shoot better.

If he isn't careful he might throw his shoulder out.:D

Shoulder's fine for patting myself on the back, but I have mechanics knees, can't kick my own ass:D

The 16lb springs do help function with my 155gr 850FPS loads that have less recoil than 9mm(130PF minor power factor/IDPA legal), or 20lb for the 180gr XTPs clocking 1100+fps loaded with longshot. For factory loads, the 20lb could be useful with heavy loads, it really cuts down on recoil compared to the factory spring

There is a decent writeup for the install of that kit for anyone interested:innocent0

I used your write up to do mine. Good help it was too. Thanks.

I would add that the SS part is better than the plastic one. It came with an instruction sheet showing the exact angles and amount to remove. Works good. I did get very comfortable taking the stinking thing apart.

Oh, the new trigger safety also needs to have the end tweeked. I mistook the problem as the over travel stop needing more removed and went too far. (that's when the SS part was ordered)

General views are Springer = Powder River = Canyon Creek. Prices are all pretty comperable. Try some if you can, call and talk to the shops about your intent (carry vs. compitition), check turnaround times.

I have a compitition Springer on a .40 Service (IPSC Limited) if you are down in SOMD and want to shoot.
