With all the talk about registration, and the recent incidents in NY and TX of papers releasing names and addresses of gun owners, I was thinking...

has anyone requested from MSP a copy of their dossier, i.e., any information they may have on you regarding collector status, gun ownership and registration information, investigator's notes for your CCW application, etc.. etc?

I think I will call them tomorrow and ask on how to proceed....it will probably take a FOIA, but I am willing to submit one (have done before with the Feds).

I will let you guys know how it goes...

You're presuming that there even is a "file".

I'd like to hear the results of your inquiry, but I have a sneaking suspicion that we're over estimating the ability of the MSP to have the resources to collate, maintain and analyze all of the of forms and transactions to even put together a "file" on everyone.

When they do bring data together to create one as part of an investigation, I'm throwing out there the theory that the materials are collated after the fact and when someone already has the spotlight on them and they go digging for information.

All my EBR were purchased back in 1970s and before the 1994 ban and from different vendors. What are the chances there are records?

    None.

The only form that would have existed would have been the Federal form for the purchase.

If the FFL (assuming an FFL was involved) had collected any paperwork, and has since gone out of business, once their "book" was closed out... the papers for background checks, etc. would have been destroyed.

I have no idea if MD has additional requirements. However, many firearms will not be listed in any records. Now, it's different if they FFL is still in business... in theory, LEOs can go to the store and pull up the paperwork for all purchases and then collect the information.

The impression I got was that it was going to be a huge PITA for them. I opted to the make the tropper's life less difficult, and dropped it at that time.

(Dude was retiring in a week... basically told me to call him after that and he'd give me an earful once he was living at his retirement home is PA.)

I will go back an PIA them again and this time not let it go.

Well, i just assume that if MDSP is the contact for NICS checks on regulated weapons, they would keep an electronic file with each of our purchases, albeit probably being illegal to keep such a list?

My main curiosity is to find out: 1. if there is a registration list, which we can assume exists for the simple fact that we HAVE to " voluntarily register" our regulated purchases, and; 2. whether MD also keeps tabs on our Cash and Carry purchases of long guns and/or ammo purchases in places such as WalMart, with the so-called ammo list.

Sould they deny in writing that such dossiers exists, then we can dispell some of the myths going around the boards. Sould they confirm it and produce a copy, we can then go to Annapolis armed with (pun intended) knowledge so when we testify about further restrictions, we can argue that our 2A and privacy are already being infringed.

Not sure of "file". But was told by the investigating officer in Frederick when I applied for a concealed permit a few months ago, he said he knew of the firearms I purchased. I'd imagine only the regulated firearms.

They don't to keep files on us. They just check their fired shell casing database, when there is a shooting, and they can trace it that way.:innocent0
