I'm gonna drive in...Annapolis is MUCH easier than DC, and I like to be on my own time schedule (not a bus's). So, will that address work?

You'd be damned lucky to find a place in either of the garages on a work day during the session.

The shuttles run about every 10-15 minutes and it's a 5 minute loop out to the stadium.

For that matter, it's not more than a 12-15 minute walk from the office building. I used to live right by the stadium and routinely walked all of the way to the city dock in around 20 minutes.

We just talked it over, as much as I would like to, I'm not taking the day off work to attend.

From the response from Mike Smigiel's office after I emailed him (and all the other delegates on the HB52 issue), I believe Mike might be looking to find a few good folks to be prepared to give testimony at the hearing. I'm not political, just a hunch.

I'm going. Not so sure I'd be talking as this bill is about letting other state holders carry within our state. If it were for Shall Issue I would absolutely stand up.

Anyhow, If anyone wants to meet at the stadium and ride the shuttle in, let me know when you'll be there. I don't work on Tuesdays so I'll be free.

What time do you get off? Sometimes these things laws untill evenning and our gun bill or the one we show up in numbers against are heard near last. It is worth dropping by to see if it is still going on and because Joe Vallario is rather informal with who he lets testify you may still be able to even if you did not sign the list well before 1:00.
I think I have testified three times when I was never on the sign in sheet in vallario's hearings.

i have jury duty on the 26 but i would like to be there what time is the hearding?

I believe it is from 1:00 til.....who knows. Might be quick relatively speaking, or it might go real late. Sometimes these pre-filed bills which get an early committee hearing date in the session are not put with other big showing bills heard that day and as a result the whole thing goes within a few hours IIRC from the few hearings I have been too. But in many cases expect to be there at the House of Delegates Judiciary hearing untill evenning because MSI, AGC and the Western MD gun clubs (forget the exact name at the moment other than Ray Givens' name) usually have enough people there to testify to make Joe Vallario want to postpone it untill late.

I believe that the 26th is a hearing on the bill. The bill would then need to be scheduled for a committee vote. If the committee votes for it, it moves to the House for a floor vote. (I think)

Correct. Hearing first, then the chairman may or may not schedule a committee vote, if it passes the committee it's on to the House floor for a vote, if it passes there it then goes to a Senate committee -- for a hearing, a possible vote (depending on the chair's decision), then to the Senate floor. If the Senate version passes and is the same as the House version (i.e. it wasn't amended in the Senate committee or floor) it is passed and awaits the Gov. signature, if the Senate and House versions are different then it has to be reconciled.

Got an e-mail from Del Smigiel today. He's asking us to bombard the committee with letters, e-mails and phone calls as he really thinks we can make an impression. Let's make some noise gents.

How can they restrict wearing an open holster at the hearing? How would he explain that to the media? It's not like a holster is a weapon.

In VA, open carry or CCW with a CHP permit is allowed inside The General Assembly.

In VA, most folks aren't complete asshats. It seems like this place is the 'lower intestines of damn-yankee land' where the stupid shit stews, brews, and coagulates until they grind it up to make koolaid.

Be thankful that they don't have a full platoon of MSP hanging out in the room, watching our every move. It appears they, or whomever called them out in the past, now understand that we aren't the law breakers they need to be concerned with.

Well, if one is particularly stumped, you can search for an MSI update on the bill in question and check out the talking points, then form your own words on the matter. Not the most creative thing in the world, but certainly better than not writing our reps.

Wearing empty holsters into the hearings has been one of my goals as an extension of the Open Holster Rally’s and I have looked into it. This is what I have been told by the security personnel.

The hearings are run on the same rules as a typical trial. The Chairman has full control of the "court room" and proper etiquette and decorum are expected. No hats or outlandish clothing are allowed. Jeans and T-shirts can get you removed from the hearing. Suits and ties are recommended, at minimum business casual is accepted. The Chairman can have you removed at his will if he considers you disrespectful of the process and or other people in the room. You should not “Boo” or shout out during testimony. Give both sides the respect our founding fathers expected. When pressed about a “prop” relevant to the question at hand, I was told that if we could obtain, in writing from the Chairman of the committee, permission to wear the holsters in the committee room, we would be allowed.

We should be able to wear an empty holster into the building and in the hallways, but it will have to be removed (just like hats) prior to entering the hearing it’s self. Expect extra scrutiny from the security personnel at entrance and wandering the halls.

Any comparison with Virginia should take into account the fact that they are about 10 years ahead of us in the process. They had to work for the rights that they now have and it did not come overnight. Once the security personnel get accustomed to us wearing empty holsters, things will change. It is one of these rights that has not been exercised and so it was lost. Keep that in mind.

Once the empty holster right is accepted and becomes standard practice, we can work on CCW holders being allowed the right to enter with their carry gun in the holster.

    Baby steps….
