Attorney for traffic violation

Heading down 301 through Carolina County at 0300 was pulled over for speeding. 87 in a 60.

Any recommendations on an attorney?

did he lower it below 20 over or write you for the full 27 over? i think 20+ they really screw you.

at least some counties you can meet with the DA right before your hearing and at least have a chance to have it lowered esp if you agree to a driving class.

I can't help with the lawyer but I know several people that this has happened to and they got it pled down to just under 20 over to save a shit ton of hassle and money by taking a drivers ed class. If that is an option, absolutely take it as insurance will either ass rape you without lube for 20+ over, or outright cancel you, etc..

Thankfully it was NOT 30mph over as there's a good chance you would not have driven home at that point, depending on the area it happened. So yea, it's bad but just a bit faster would have been a *lot* worse.

A lot of the District Court judges get mad at officers for writing under the actual speed to give someone a break. They think it's inappropriate and the citation should reflect the exact speed, although you could argue the citation is still accurate since they had to cross the lower speed to get to it or stop from it.

EDIT: Disregard earlier comments, they were referring to Maryland, not Virginia's Caroline County.

They think it's inappropriate and the citation should reflect the exact speed, although you could argue the citation is still accurate since they had to cross the lower speed to get to it or stop from it.

I am not a lawyer but IIRC at least the five points for 20 over doesn't kick in until it's a 65mph or greater zone. I think it's still a 2-pointer at 87 in a 60, but OP verify that with a lawyer. Because obviously five points is some serious insurance coin as well as potential license restrictions. At least it wasn't 30 or more over, because that would invoke the five points in a 60 mph zone.

Do you mean Caroline county? I think 301 runs through Queen Anne’s and Kent counties.

IANAL. My niece was given a ticket in VA for 83 mph years ago. She lives in FL. A specialized lawyer handled the whole thing for her. She didn't need to go to court, but it cost her a bunch of $$$. I don't know who her lawyer was. It was in the late 00's.

I love Maryland laws. He would be in more trouble if he should have been going faster. Almost as good as stealing a gun is less is a penalty than lending one.

Ok, he must be talking about Caroline county VA, I don’t know of any 60 mph speed limits on 301 on eastern shore, I thought 55 mph was limit here.

VA raised the reckless driving threshold from 80 to 85 but anything 20mph over posted speed limit is reckless. OP is in for the double header. Link to applicable law/section below. Yeah, get a local lawyer. Used to live in Caroline County. It was rather incestuous back then.

I had a 76 in a 55. I refused to waste money on a lawyer. I showed up to court, told the judge I made a mistake, and said if I have a wreckless driving on my record, it would negatively impact my employment, and I would have no issues paying the fine in full.

He said something, I paid the full fine, lookjng at tbe court summary I couldn't tell if I got wreckless or not, but nothing further happened and the points clear in 2 years.
