Just to be really safe, no mag in pistol, slide and frame carried separately. Practice assembly, inserting mag, racking, I sure you will have more than ample time to get into the fight.

A pistol carried for self defense in condition 3 is basically a rock.
    ^^^ THIS ^^^

I am really beginning to believe that most people here watch WAY too many bullsh!t action movies and actually believe they will have time to dick around with getting their gun loaded. I am embarrassed for these people and were it not so sad and stupid, it would be funny.

Many/most have never been involved in ANY sort of physical altercation and really do not understand how quickly and violently events unfold. Things happen VERY quickly, and many/most do not seem to realize is that, as a mere armed citizen, we will always be condemned to 'reaction mode', while any bad guy has already taken the initiative and things are in motion before you are even aware.

While every SD situation is NOT a quick-draw solution, enough are that we cannot assume there will be time to do anything at all. There is no way one can be fast enough to respond effectively with an inoperative handgun. Sometimes there is not even time to draw, let alone fvck around with the gun to make it ready. If it's not ready when you grab it, it is indeed equivalent to a rock.

Yup. In any self defense scenario, the good guy is always playing catch-up. He is already behind the 8 ball.

Haven't carried anything with a hammer or thumb safety in over a decade, good riddance, have NEVER carried with an empty chamber. Kind of hilarious carrying with a loaded chamber is still "controversial."

Somewhere there is probably some self righteous curmudgeon happily carrying a Queen Anne pistol with an empty pan and flint in their pocket claiming it is the only responsible way to carry.

I like to keep the slide on my left, frame on my right and then cross draw to assemble. It's very safe.

While I realize you're being funny, there are a number of people on this forum who would seemingly be better off with a DAO or decocker-equipped pistol so they could carry hammer down without the apparent drama of manually lowering the hammer.

My comfort with carrying in condition 1 would probably revolve around the presence of a firing pin safety.
Well, yes, but it’s also what I carry!

I see there has been a of discussion about carrying a pistol cocked and locked. Lots of first timers in MD with WC for the first time. Gun Digest has a good article discussing it.
