Congratulations to the young man!My youngest son shot his first gobbler yesterday as part of Marylands youth season. We spent 12 1/2 hours in the woods, but it was worth it. The gobbler had a 9 3/4” beard

Great job! Nice looking birds.First on the board. I called in three gobblers at first light. We took two of them before 0630. Looks like the 410 lived up to the task.

Hey, congrats BigCountry! I think you beat me by about ten minutes!Quick morning for me. Back to the house by 630. Gobbled in the park across the road and creek, hit the ground and came running right to me. Flopping by 0610. Great opening morning!

Late last spring one morning, I opened my door to a hen almost on the front porch. The dog had no clue what the hell was going on. She putted and ran off.Had a hen in my front yard on Sunday, while I was in the fish pond cleaning out all of last fall's leaves. She got about 10-12 feet away from me, completely unconcerned by my presence... just grazing the yard looking for bugs. Was nice just to watch her for a while. Good sized bird too.

Where were you hunting? I stopped and spoke to a guy just leaving Monocacy (Park Mills Rd.) and asked if he had any luck and he had. Shot a gobbler at first light. I've hunted there in the past when I had no private land to hunt and have gotten on gobblers. I just couldn't close the deal on any. There were a few people hunting there, but it's a pretty big place and holds plenty of turkey, at least in the beginning of the season. It was a dismal morning . For numerous reasons ( short version ) Didn’t year anything . Son and I hunted some public land in Montgomery county instead of western Md . So many people . Guy smoking dope down through woods while hunting. Could smell it . Had him take me home . Definitely not used to hunting areas like this. Pretty big land but not that big for all the people. If it was deer what’s the ole saying a pumpkin patch. Both disappointed . Had my reservations about going there , trying save / manage time. Oh well . Worst opening day I’ve had in 30 years . But again don’t really hunt public land like that . I was shocked at what I seen . Feel bad for people that’s all they can get to . Rough hunting .
If you want to try public again, give Monocacy a try. I would avoid any public land near a weekend though.Patuxent I think it’s called , off 97 . Talked to guy lives around there says he sees birds but hasn’t heard them . I would not chase a gobble there . Would assume a lot of people would be going after same bird . Literally didn’t want to get shot . Was a new experience for me . Nice land . Apparently they run dogs there for fox hunts also. Place is not for me.
