Shot a few guns, then my carry gun. One shot and it jammed. Gun? I think it was a dirty magazine.

I learned to just accept cleaning, but it does factor in my going to the range...

    and - I - clean -every - mag.

Prior to the plandemic, I shot USPSA/Multigun almost every weekend, ended up putting 300-600 rounds through my STI every week. I dropped mags in the dirt and dust of Quantico and Peacemaker. In that time, I cleaned the magazines once that year. That was after a competition when it had rained that morning. I kept a refrigerator brush in my range bag in case I needed it. I used it that one time.

Enjoy reading about others not cleaning after every trip to the range etc. Nice to know I'm in good company.

I used to clean more regular but my wife has asthma and solvent chokes her up. I always found cleaning them while watch tv relaxing/therapeutic. I guess having a father that was a riflery instructor in the army can change your perspective on such things.

I have a nice work area set up to clean. I even have a mini air compressor set up to blow out those difficult crevices and corners, and of course that glorious smell of Hoppes #9 with a cup of coffee on a rainy day at my work bench. Ahh Good Days!

That Hoppe's No. 9 smell is definitely one-of-a-kind.

I went to the range yesterday and shot a bunch of my guns. It was a blast. <Get it Blast..... Now the part I hate. Cleaning them all. I know there will be many of you that say one day at the range doesn't mean the gun need cleaning and maybe they don't but I am just that guy that likes to keep my shit clean. I can't help myself. Who hates cleaning guns as much as I do?
If anyone likes cleaning guns, they will change their mind if they have to clean a Ruger Mark III.

The Hoppe's No. 9 just isn't the same without ammonium oleate, neutral saponifiable oil, nitro-benzene, light mineral oil such as kerosene, and amyl acetate.and amyl acetate in a glass bottle. Love potion number 9 according to the song perhaps.

I clean the same after one shot than after 100 rounds. After each time I shoot, field strip, soak barrel in Hoppes, toothbrush the frame to get it clean, return to barrel with nylon or brass brush, scrub and then spray with Gun Scrubber, when patch pushes through white I am done.

I hate it, sometimes I don't shoot because I would have to clean. I have found if I take a cleaning kit to the range and clean immediately after the shooting session the carbon and powder residue comes out much easier.

This is what my dad taught me, this is what I do, this is what I teach. But what do I know......

Or to slightly rephrase , they will change their mind about routine disassembly . See discussion about different interpretations of " cleaning " , and clean vs maintain vs lubrication & protection .

    Ruger anecdote .

There we were . at the (room sized gun corner of open plan basement of Late Best Friend , aka Shooting & Handloading Partner #1 ) . We were each doing various gun stuff . and he was cursing his 22/45 .

" Oh yeah ? , let's see you do it Biggfoot ." I disassembled and reassembled in about a minute . His jaw dropped . " Dang ! Let's see that again " " Hell No ! That was pure luck, and I'd probably never do it again . I'm quitting while I'm ahead ."

I find it therapeutic. Almost like meditation. I know my blood pressure goes down whenever I clean them.

If anyone likes cleaning guns, they will change their mind if they have to clean a Ruger Mark III.

Even a Mk III. I have a slab sided one with the 6-7/8" barrel. I removed the mag disconnect and things were much simpler.

I’m surprised how many think routine cleaning will harm a firearm. I don’t use steel brushes or other harsh things during cleaning and if field stripping a pistol “harms” it, I’m not sure I’d depend on it.

Again, I’m not talking about a total disassembly, just a field strip. You guys that run a dirty gun are weird.

It has been proven by many people. A dirty gun doesn't hurt anything. I'm not saying I never clean, I might wipe down the outside or add some lube but a thorough cleaning only happens once a year. Only exception might be a rimfire pistol with a suppressor.
Guns that are blued or have a nickel finish will get a little extra.
My long range bolt action rifle has never been cleaned (other than initially) and it has about 600 rounds through it. Only thing I do is wipe down the bolt and very light lube it.

Do you wash your car or change the engine oil and filter after every time you drive it?
