OC is like carrying your wallet clipped outside your pants.

Sure, you can do it, but why?

Not hunting. Anything from running errands, helping a friend somewhere, etc. Like I said, out and about. If I decide I need to pop into a little country store, they aren't gonna jump out of their skin at the sight of a guy with a sidearm walking into their store to grab a soda and a slice of Hunt Brother's pizza. It just doesn't happen.
I agree with you in this.

I only open carried a few times, but was so self conscious about it, thinking people were staring at me when knowingly probably a small percentage saw me and couldn't careless.

Nonetheless,I hope the entirety of sb1 is deemed unconstitutional,so I can open carry at my discretion when I feel it's appropriate.

Sadly, the powers that be at MSI didn't argue this point in their lawsuit, probably IMO because they favor concealed, when ironically the legal point they were making pertains to carry when the 2A was adopted and only criminals concealed.

The best you are going to get under current MSI leadership is the Florida of the mid Atlantic sans the constitutional carry.

Well.... There's printing while concealed and then there's concealed.

If you don't mind printing while concealed, have at it.

    Define larger and more powerful....
    Also, compared to what?

Meaning that my EDC is a micro 9mm, but I much prefer my 1911 in .45 acp. It's just too bulky for my frame. If it was an OWB/open carry, I would be more comfortable with the 1911

Before I began carrying, I internally debated this. I thought I would prefer to open carry. I've changed my mind.

I don't think that OC necessarily makes you more likely to be shot, I think it makes you more likely to be mugged and relieved of your sidearm, especially in Maryland. People are mugging/jugging/assaulting people in teams now. All it takes is a moment's inattention and two guys can confront you in a way that prevents you from drawing. It's all over.

CC is a hassle but I think it's far better to keep the criminals guessing.

It all depends on where and when you do it. That's been my feeling about it. You have to be smart about it, however you carry a gun.

    That's disheartening.

    Got it.

I assume you've tried different cover garments for OWB with your 1911?

Puffy jacket or layered hoodie/fleece should do the job in fall/winter. I can understand the concealment limitations for warmer weather though.

Well said.... but I think you meant "inadvertent brandishing" here?
Couple things, "Brandishing" when it comes to MD law, is not a thing.
Brandishing is indeed a verb meaning to wave something around.
Printing is seeing the outline of something under textile. Usually reserved for some sort of outline of the grip of a pistol under a shirt.

So, you cannot "brandish a holstered pistol. If you do actually brandish a pistol(by definition), Maryland considers that Assault, reckless endangerment if you fire it not at someone.
Print all you want. If your shirt rides up "inadvertently" and someone sees it, it's not illegal.

I carry 1911 Commander OWB regularly in the fall/winter early spring. The holster/belt combo is key. Never had a problem w/concealment. 5'9" and 200 lbs---

Carrying concealed is probably a tactical advantage. It also keeps the normies feeling safe. It is harder, less convenient, and encourages smaller weapons which are never as good as a full size fighting gun.

Open carry can be more comfortable and convenient and allow for a larger firearm without too much trouble. It also draws attention (though apparently not as much as you would think).

But, the biggest problem with concealed carry that I see, especially when mandated, is it is a way of shaming the legally armed populace, forcing them into the shadows. Widespread Open carry, while making some uncomfortable, would go a long way to normalizing firearms and self defense. There would be an uncomfortable transition period, no doubt. An armed society may be a polite society, but perhaps not if everyone is hiding.

    Absolutely right.

Having the right kind of holster/belt/mag carrier makes all the difference. There's quality stuff out there.
