      Calipers...recommendations...

I guess I dropped 'em once too often. The dial on my calipers shows .050 when fully closed so unless I want to look at it upside down or do the math every time I use them...time to get new calipers. Recommendations for good quality calipers? Not GREAT quality...I probably won't want to spend...

DIY 38 Super conversion FTF problem

I put a RIA 38 Super barrel in a TISAS 9mm 1911. Everything seemed to fit fine but… 1) Consistent FTF issues even with a variety of magazines and ammo. 2) If I hand feed an individual round, some will chamber okay and some not. 3) If a round does chamber, it fires just fine but shots are...

      Federal JHP 45 ACP identification…

Fifteen years ago a friend who had spent years prepping for the apocalypse, gave up hope and sold me a bunch of his ammo. As in a 50 cal ammo can filled with Federal JHP rounds that seemingly had just been dumped out of their boxes into the can. Unless Federal has sold rounds in bulk packs...

Plunger spring on series 80 1911has sprung loose…

This is why one should never go to far in cleaning a gun. After trouble with the firing pin block it hook it all apart and in all the fussing to put it back together, the tiny spring flew out to parts unknown. Any nearby options for the part or better yet, someone to help get it put back...

Is “Match”:9 mm ammo actually that much better? I.e. more accurate?

I’ve shot a lot of 9 mm in my Springfield XDm’s. Always the cheapest ammo I could find and I was never disappointed or thought I could tell a difference. i just got a 1911 in 9mm and want to pursue better 25+ yard accuracy. Is there really a difference in “Match” 9 mm ammo?

What is this rash on these cases?

I bought over 100 6.5 CM cases from a guy without looking at them. Just a bunch of cases in a bag. They had been sitting in his garage for a couple of years after initially being fired out of an AR-10. I tossed 'em in my vibratory tumbler and when they came out they were all nice and shiny...

      1911 parts...any place "local"...

Is there any place in Maryland that has a ready supply of gun parts...things like the link for a 1911 barrel or match bushings or even magazines a bit less common...like 38 Super magazines? If not, what is the best place to order from in terms of speed in shipping, price, breadth of inventory...

      My DIY 1911 conversion…9mm to 38 Super

Starting with the very cheapest 1911 I could find…a 9mm TISAS 5” for $317… 1) Which steps will most enhance the accuracy of the 38 Super…barrel fit? slide-to-frame fit? match barrel? match bushing? Something else? 2) Barrel bushing…angle bore or not? Which manufacturer and where to find...

      Sonic cleaners...yay or nay?

I've got a vibratory tumbler...taking the time to make sure that I get all the media out of each piece of brass when I'm done and wiping off the dust. I've got a rotary tumbler...taking the time to shake out the water and then put each piece into a dehydrator to dry them off before reloading...

Tutoring on a Dillon 550...I want to look over someone's shoulder...

I bought a used Dillon 550 with a ton of extras...conversion kits, dies, toolheads as well as a bunch of components. I haven't set it up yet. I'm a visual learner...and I don't mean YouTube. In the next couple of weeks I would love to look over someone's shoulder during a reloading session to...

      Watch for a shooting enthusiast...suggestions?

My Suunto Core watch seems to be giving up the ghost. I'm not even sure what the features might be for a watch suited for shooting enthusiasts. I shoot a little bit of everything...handgun, shotgun, rifle. I'm guessing that a watch that helped with long range precision shooting might be a...

      1911 gunsmith - Eastern Shore

I'm looking for a 1911 gunsmith. It would be a plus to find someone who could do competition level accurizing on a 1911 but not required. And I'd also love to find someone over here who does a good job of bluing or cerakoting.

Suggestions for engraving on Remington 870 stock for fundraiser

There is an organization that helps with college funds for fallen FBI agents. To be auctioned off is a collectible 870 shotgun that had the receiver specially engraved forty years ago. That collector has donated it to this cause. But the plan is to add precise engraving or wood burning to the...

Crimping rifle bullets to increase accuracy?

I know crimping might be wise for a semi-auto like an M1 Garand. But for either a semi-auto or a bolt gun, will crimping help with accuracy because of more uniform and perhaps slightly greater neck tension?

PUBLIC 100 yard rifle ranges from DC area east to Annapolis...want to shoot today.

I thought I had seen a list somewhere of outdoor ranges in Maryland but I can't seem to find it. I'm a member at the Delmarva Sportsman's range in Sudlersville. I'm picking up some friends in DC and would like to take them shooting somewhere nearby. Are there any "open to the public" ranges...
