About a year ago I purchased a 1944 Mosin Nagant 91/30 PU sniper from an estate sale. The previous owner died in 1964 and he was a Navy Admiral. He served in WWII and Korea. His office (and firearm collection) sat untouched after his death. I picked up his sniper, Japanese Type 99 (monopod, airplane sites, intact mum), and 1940s Remington 512 .22 complete with an early 1960s era scope.
Anyway, the sniper was missing the scope. I have since picked up a nice, original scope from Allan's Armory and a reproduction base from Accumounts. I don't really trust myself with the base drilling, so any recommendations on someone that can help with that? As you can see, the rifle already has the posts, so I will have to drill the base.
Here are some of the details on the sniper along with some pictures. It has matching numbers, no import mark, bent bolt, late or post-war stock, and brass caps on the hand guard. All metal parts are stamped with the Izhevsk arrow. The barrel bands and band retainers still have some of the brass finish on them. The varnish is thick on this one. The barrel is bright and the action is the best I have ever felt on a wartime Mosin Nagant rifle.
Considering the time of the owner's death (and lack of import marks), I wonder if this is a Korean War bring back?
