I thought I'd post some pics of the mod I made to my Dan Wesson Silverback - I added a Stan Chen SI (Shooter Installed) magwell.

It's not a 100% perfect fit - there's just a touch of overhang at the front of the magwell - but it's close enough, and IMO improved the aesthetic quality of the pistol. It's a mod to any 1911 I'll buy from this point forward if it doesn't already have a magwell because it's an easy mod - it drops right in, and it's not complicated or complex.

    Before/after.

No pictures at the moment, but my favorite right now has to be my 1st gen S&W SW1911SC because it has been 100% reliable.

My Dan Wesson Heritage isn't broken in yet (I bought it used, but it was barely fired), and it isn't fully reliable yet (one FTF per box or so). Once it is more reliable it may become my favorite because it looks better, it feels better to shoot (steel over lightweight scandium/aluminum alloy for the win), and it is very solid. But for now, having to smack the slide to get it into battery every now and then isn't confidence inspiring.

I want to love my Springfield Armory Garrison 9mm given how long I've wanted a stainless SA 1911, but it has a FTF every 2 or 3 mags. I hope in another 100-200 rounds it will break in and be fine, having to smack the back of the slide every few mags to get it to go into battery gets old. If it works after full break in period, it may become a favorite because it is a 1911, and with the cost of 9mm vs. .45ACP it will get a lot more range time. More time in the hand should cause it to be more liked.

My one and only 1911, my Dan Wesson Valor.
Can't go wrong with a Dan Wesson. I have a Valor, which I really enjoy, but my favorite between the two is the Silverback I posted above - I shoot it a bit better than the Valor, and since I added the Stan Chen drop-in magwell (highly recommended) it really rounded out the aesthetic I like.

Love my DW. Recently sold my Kimber because it had been relegated to safe-queen status and I overall was not impressed with it. I plan to eventually buy a Specialist as well.

One day - it's a heck of a pistol. I usually don't care for a rail on a 1911, but I really seems to work on the Specialist. When I ordered my 2020 Valor, I was really on the fence between the Valor and the Specialist. Ulimately I should have just gotten the specialist because I ended up putting the exact same grips on it that Dan Wesson uses for the Specialist.

This is what my Valor looks like now.

I was also on the fence and went for the Valor. No regrets, but I find myself wanting the railed version as well. I managed to get a pre "discontinued" valor NIB from MD Elite last year. It's a real joy to shoot and has actually gotten tighter and smoother over it's first few hundred rounds. The action is silky smooth now and there is zero play as it's worn in. Ended up throwing some VZ grips on it.

I bet that pistol is a gem. I've read here and there that the version of the Valor you have is better than the new ones, but I have no complaints with mine. Well, actually, that's not entirely true. Because I ordered a 2020 Valor before the MD Handgun Roster did away with the model number requirement, I had to jump through all kinds of hoops to get it added to the MD Handgun Roster before I could take it home. That was a process that lasted from about July of 2020 through November where the pistol sat and languished at my FFL.

Yeah I would have been fine with either, although I have heard that the older ones are built on Ed Brown frames and I am unsure if that is still the case. Either way, both are excellent.

Right now the only one I own, a transition Colt where the only original parts are the frame, slide, and probably the grip safety. Everything else was replaced by the Army at some point.

This is my Colt custom-built 1911. Built for our military unit as a limited run. Only 99 were authorized, but I think only 15 were ever sold. Love this firearm. Trigger is perfection.
