I'm down to ~15 1911s, most are early. Here's a Pre-70 LW Commander I have Mast Pistol Smith John Harrison build me some years ago. rather than checkering, I went with serrations... His work is incredible...

I believe that that his grandfather had it chromed when he got back from the war. I have no idea what happened to it after he passed away last year, from leukemia.
    RIP Paul

In that case , appreciate it was as a Period Correct mid century enthusiast's gun .

    I have 5 - 1911's. There's just something undeniably captivating about a 1911 !
Like holding a .45 Colt SAA Revolver........they just feel like the "real deal"
This little treasure is the scaled downof the original. (7/8 I think)
They make it in a .22LR also.
Absolutely gorgeous and a real pleasure to shoot !

I like these type 1911’s. My preference is a 5” Gov’t length, with good sights, good trigger, accurized, reliable with a high hold configuration. I prefer 45 (on the right) but am a 9mm fan (on the left). The 9mm is a hoot in a steel 5” gun.

I kinda like rails and modified military configurations…but not ones with short frame tangs. These two also have all the attributes already mentioned. Except the sights are fixed on both.

One more, is a 45 but soon will start on a 9mm version. This is built a personal defense pistol bit is match grafe. Again accurate, good trggervsights and high hold. This one is an aluminum framed pistol but it shots very pleasant with 230 grain ball.

Someone said something about the 1911 being good in most configurations. I agree.

Hope to pick up a WWII vintage 1911A1 in round 3 of the CMP sales - If I don't get what I want there, I guess I will get one from the CMP's auction.

I have the lightweight Ruger Commander. It has been disappointing. Ejected empties into my forehead (big burr at the end the extractor channel -
To follow up on my own post my Ruger ran fine with the "bad" factory magazine yesterday. No changes to the gun or magazine - maybe just a break-in issue?
Still getting the occasional empty ejected at my head but i can live with that.

Your favorite 1911 you own w/pictures? N Why is this your favorite?

    QIxETKY.jpg

Even though it has been a while since I shot it, my stainless Guncrafter Frag is my favorite 1911.

    Why?

Accuracy. Never owned another 1911 that could come even close to how it shoots.

I have a few 1911's. Like them all. Dan Wesson PM-7 was my first 1911. Sent it to Alchemy Custom some years ago for upgrades. Love the diamond checkering he did on the front and back. I'd put it up against any high end 1911, and it's probably my favorite.

One of these two - both Dan Wessons, both 45s. One is a Silverback, the other is a 2020 Valor. Both of them eat any ammo you feed them, and both are more accurate than I am.

I swapped out the grips on the Valor to the VZ Operator II In hyena brown.

Being new to MDShooters I'm not sure where to start. I am looking for advice about purchasing several different guns both rifles and pistols.

I know what I want. I just need to know where to get the best deal and reputable gunsmithing services...

Tisas .45 is one of the guns I am interested in. Do you believe it is an exact copy? I know Clark 1911 gunsmiths won't work on Rock Island. But they didn't mention Tisas.

The Tisas 1911A1 US Army is as faithful a reproduction as they come.

I just keep it stock. I want it just like I remembered mine from the late 70s early 80s USAR days.

I added walnut grips but they may come that way more recently.

I got mine at United Guns in Rockville, MD.

    YMMV

The Tisas guns are a good copy for the US GI 1911-A1, except for the profile of the grip safety. Hammer is enough different but keeps the spirit of the GI gun well enough. There is the lowered and properly flared ejection port (unlike others’ cosmetic flares) and the beveled magwell…but they are enhancements.

Tisas pistols are much nicer pistol than their Rock Island market counterparts..inside and outside. I just bought my second Tisas - a full size 9mm GI type pistol. I do a certain set of alterations to mine. The 45 I did…and sold…was a very nice handling pistol. It was nimble in the hand. This one I fired the day I picked it up. Typical for an entry level 1911. Functioned well. Service grade accurate, held about 2 -2.5” at 17 yards with Blazer aluminum. Not the best trigger, had about a 5.5 pull weight, gritty, creepy. The gritty feel was due to the new park/ceracote finish. Later disassembly revealed all machined small parts inside. I didn’t look close at the mainspring housing or grip safety…but the rest are machined parts…not MIM.

Good value for the $$$. Pics attached. Tartget was shot at 11 yards. Forgot to snap apic of the longer range groups…
