This is probably the most comprehensive study of concealed carry in the 50 states ever conducted. I've reviewed most of it, but there is a lot of detail. It's hot off the digital press and current.
It was written at the request of Congress and in response to the proposed National Reciprocity law in Congress.
Of particular note to us, Maryland is one of nine "case study" states, along with Virginia, California and Florida. It breaks down everything from the number of permits issued in 2011, to the actual physical characteristics of each state's card.
Another interesting tidbit: most in the gun community have been using 6.8 to 7 million as the number of active permit holders in the USA. The actual number is more than 8 Million and that number does not include a count of carriers in states that do not require an actual permit to carry.
Read it. It's full of good info that both sides will parse and play with. But I think overall it shows how out of sync MD and CA are from the majority of the nation.
