Sounds difficult for the receipt checkerI'll probably just take a range bag or back pack in. From aray's sign I expect my grocery purchase to be lower ..... soon.
Noone behind the counters where we've been talking to people about this is looking forward to it.So how is this to be enforced at self checkout lines? Watching this fiasco at Walmart is gonna be fun.
Is there a penalty if a private person sells plastic bags in the parking lot for $.05/each?Some observations:
* Paragraph (D)(1) exempts full/service restaurants, limited-service restaurants, fast food restaurants, etc. But according to my wife’s Nextdoor app, one person reported that they were charged a dime for a bag at an AACO Burger King at a drive through window. Clearly not all establishments know the law correctly, so be careful and watch your receipts.
* (D)(4) allows the merchants to provide free reusable bags 22-30 April AND during 10 day promotional periods every month. If they don’t do that, you should ask the manager why not, as obviously paper bags cost << a dime in bulk wholesale.
* Section 2 states that establishments may provide alternate non-plastic bags at no cost until 1 February. That is, they may charge this month, but are not required to do so by the County Crown.
I'm buying a few boxes of the 1K count plastic bags at Sams Club. The joke is on them!
I’m getting mine from ULINE. Slightly better quality (but still of the “single use” variety), they come in pretty colors, and at $55/case, are still much cheaper than the 0.10/bag being charged for the ******** single-ply, can’t carry easily paper ones.T-Shirt Carry-Out Bags, 11.5" x 6.5" x 22" (1,000 ct.) - Sam's Club

Yup. And it's pretty easy to sash 10-20 of these bags in your car. I'll be the only one smiling as I'm walking out the store.T-Shirt Carry-Out Bags, 11.5" x 6.5" x 22" (1,000 ct.) - Sam's Club

But the Edgewater Giant is out of bags.Giant and Trader Joe's are not charging for paper until 1Feb... so, double-bag to your heart's content
As we continue to talk to cashiers, none of them like this, and the consensus seems to be that the county has unnecessarily set the people back some 40 years.
