    Juuuuust over the line
In DC, you can carry a 10 rnd mag + 1 in the pipe. BUT... The extra mag can only have 9 rounds. 20 rnds total is the limit... Because everyone knows that that 21st round is "extra killier"...
The 20 round total limit no longer exists, you can have as many mags/rounds as you want. The 10 round magazine limit is still in effect (unless you are a left wing journalist on one of the national propaganda channels) and any gun you carry must be registered with the DC police. Also, with a permit you can have ammo for whatever you have registered.

I can't possibly get into typing tactics of how to defend your store, or make you have some magical situational alertness and willingness.

However, I would direct you to Active Self Protection on Youtube. The host goes over shooting videos and offers good, solid advice. There are plenty of store robbery videos he critiques. This, I think is one of the best resources on the internet. You can learn a lot.

I certainly hope your permit course goes over and drills reloading. Remember, do the permit class and it also qualifies for the hql. TD

I'm not sure if the OP is speaking of D.C. or Maryland . Or where he is a resident .

Pro tip - Either way , get a combined class that covers both Maryland and D.C.

A while back , D.C. had a partial rule change . Magazines are still limited to 10 rounds , but no more limit on how many magazines ( or speedloaders ) on your person .

Opps , I didn't read all pages before posting , and Shafted beat me to it .
