Yup! And two .44 bullets fired low, and in close proximity to each other, will cut a 2x4 clean in half, leaving your target in the dirt until the next cease fire. (Don't ask me how I know.)

Good idea to cut a standard 8 foot 2x4 in half, and have 2 four footers with you for change outs if needed. The 4 foot height will work out fine.

Not adding much to what has been said but been a member for over 10 years. I don’t take advantage of a lot of the facilities or activities but I love to just go and shoot on the rifle or pistol range.

I used to be a member at on-target but I enjoy shooting outside so much more.

I don’t keep track of the politics so no stress there for me.

The RSOs have been better in recent years. I’ve never had a major issue but they seem to be more chill and only address safety issues where in the past I felt like some went looking for a violation if they didn’t recognize you.

I haven’t shot steel yet or got the badge but I see a lot of guys wearing gloves when setting up so might want to consider that.

I agree that a plinking range/bay would be awesome. That is really my only gripe as that was promised from what I remember.

I also have one of these I use places other than the AGC. Should be OK for there as well.

Good mention on having gloves when handling steel targets mounted to 2x4's. Bullet frag embedded in 2x4's WILL cut bare hands, and quickly!

Maybe those who shoot at AGC could put a bug in their ear to upgrade the pistol range with overhead pulley systems. (A manual system like Hap Baker’s would be fine.) Frequent target distance changes are common for handgun training making cold range changes impractical.

AGC is close for me and I could put up with the range fees if the pistol range amenities were improved. (From what I’m seeing in posts, it appears the pistol range receives the least attention.)

I have noticed this as well. The guys now are truly safety officers.

All anybody has to do is sketch up a plan and get an estimate together for the cost and propose it at a trustees meeting.

Here's a question - maybe some folks here know what's what.

Now that I've completed my steel target certification and paid the license fee, given the requirements of the range for steel targets, what steel targets does AGC have available for purchase? Do they have all of the listed variants, (3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and AR400/AR500) or am I better off finding something on my own rather than buying from the range?

To my knowledge, the range isn't really making any money on the targets they sell, or at least that's what was implied the last time I asked about it, so if they have what I want, I'll just buy it from them.

Here you go Trick. Happened to see this on display out in front of the Barnes range house today, and it reminded me of your question.

    Here's what they're displaying....
Wasn't aware that they rent steel also.

Back view shows bracket....paper shows that they sell 8 and 12 inch round steel kits also. Kit consists of steel, bracket, hardware and 2x4.

I guess Ralph's still controlling the AGC from the grave.
No but, Bryant Cramer has been manipulating behind the scenes for quite some time. He is XO now. In order for anything to be brought up at a trustees meeting, it has to be pre-approved, you can no longer show up and bring up an issue of concern at the trustees meeting unless they have approved it. Not good.

A bit further up in the thread a member of the AGC RSSOP committee posted that I had gotten linked to the old version of the quiz, which is why it didn't align, and also why it didn't tell you the questions you got wrong. They posted a link to the newer version of the quiz.

I just took it, passed it, and paid the steel shooting certification fee, so the next time I go to AGC, I'll be renewing my membership and buying steel target, unless I can find something else that I like better elsewhere. Or, I'll get one from AGC now, and I'll pick up something else later - no one says you can't have more than one steel target.

I'm a happy camper - can't wait to start ringing steel out there - it's a lot more fun than punching holes in paper.

I like the idea of that - I might wait until I'm retired from the National Guard though - that's coming up pretty soon - another couple of months before I drop a packet and I'm done, for all intents and purposes. That sounds like a nice way to spend a summer weekend day.

With my disabilities, I cannot use the overhead pulley system at Hap Baker because it is too high and tight. Last time I had to pop a Nitro!

If an organization holds out to the public, then it is subject to the requirements of the ADA and make reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities. Make your needs known to the County Commission on Disabilities (sometimes associated with the Department of Aging). If they don't know there is a problem, they can't fix it.

Curious if any members (current or previous) can give their opinion on this range and its membership, etc. I've always gone to Guntry, which is fine, but I'd prefer an outdoor range and this one is extremely close to my home. Thanks!
This place is great, I used to go to Guntry also until I found AGC. Never been back to Guntry since. They have something for everybody there, pistol range, 100yrd, 200yrd, Trap, action shooting, and more. Its also a great bargin too I think current membership is $225 plus club dues for the year which is a steal. They have great matches for action shooting like Falling steel, 3 gun, USPSA, and IDPA.

I went ahead and got the IPSC steel target at AGC and spent some time ringing that on the day that I got it.

For those who said that bringing extra 2x4s is a smart thing to do, you weren't just whistling Dixie! The one that came with the target got chewed up pretty good that first day.
