What load will you be using? I have some 165 Speers loaded up. Getting about 2600 fps out of a 20 inch barrelA little over two weeks out! What will your main weapon be for the hunt? I think I'm going with the AR-10. I just ordered some upgrades for it. She's plain Jane right now, not that there's anything wrong with plain Jane. Does everything the fancier, classier, more expensive models will do, just not good for showing her off.

I have 150 grain Winchester Power-Points and 180 grain Federal Soft Points. I just ordered an 18" barrel. I'll go out to Elite next week to see which one groups better.
What caliber? My buddy is using his Model 70 in 30-06.
Just your run-of-the-mill VGR in 30-06.

Anyone have a tag they can’t use due to other obligations? One year I couldn’t get away from work so the sub had it all to himself. Unfortunately he didn’t tag out.
I’m curious and having a bear (ahem) of a time finding data.
What have been the historic numbers since bear tags started up again in Maryland?

If my math is correct thats an 8.7% success rate. Maryland isnt serious about reducing the bear population.Since 2004

Maryland kills enough bears to keep Western MD off their backs and the bear lovers of the state from having too big of a melt down.
I go to western MD a lot. I do see bears from time to time and I’m sure there are some people dealing with bear problems but DNR has changed the lottery over the years to hit their goal of population and I’m sure they’ll continue to do so. It’s not a canned hunt like ME or other states where you can bait so percentages will be lower. I would like to see the the hunting dates include weekends though.

When choosing a good post to hunt. Think like yogi bear from jellystone. Pick a skunky dumpster and be patient.
Heck we just had a bear in the trash last week, we are in central Maryland. There seems to be a good amount of them in western Frederick County.
Also had a bear on the front porch recently. I'd like to see more being taken. Also a week to hunt them can be hard from a PTO perspective.
I drew a permit once, was only able to make it out once, but 2 weeks later had a bear within 20 yards while deer hunting.

LOL, not sure your definition of a " canned hunt" is the same as that in common use.
