Alright, we've got our M4 clone thread, now it's time for the M3 CLONE thread.

To my knowledge, these Turkish Benelli M3 clones have been imported as:
    Tristar Tec-12
    SDS Duo-Sys

These appear to be the Khan Arms Duo-Sys Force in sporting format.

The Tec-12 apparently had some changes early on, but from what I can tell, the SDS Duo-Sys seems to be identical to the later models of the Tristar Tec-12.

The cheapest place to buy these is likely to change. You are best off checking Wikiarms. I bought mine from Dahlonega Arms for $306 (plus $30 shipping), but they're now much higher. Suffice it to say that you should be aiming at $350 and under for your base purchase price.

Initial impressions out of the box:

The Duo-Sys ships in the usual godawful cardboard box I've seen with the last two SDS shotguns I've bought. Clearly, this is one of the places they're saving money. The gun itself was in good enough condition, with no serious marks or similar. It comes with a limiter, some chokes, the charging handle, and an instruction manual.

Initial hand-cycling function checks with dummies were successful. The semi-auto action is super smooth (shockingly so); the pump action encounters some friction about halfway through the stroke, but nothing that would slow you down if you were in a hurry. If you are used to the 870 or 5XX platforms, the M3 operating system is going to surprise you a bit. The pump action does not lock closed when chambered, but it will lock open when you fire your last shot when the tube is empty. While I would certainly appreciate it locking closed (the real M3 does not as well), I don't mind locking open as much. The extractor looks like the standard Benelli setup, and the spring felt really rather weak; I expect that replacing those two will be a first order of business.

The sights are meh, but functional. I suspect optics might not be such a bad idea (much like the S4), provided the rail is torqued well.

The stock is garbage. Unfortunately, they decided to bolt it in, as you can see in this bad picture:

Hope you've got a good socket wrench extension! I am told the ATI universal stock for Tristars will fit this thing, and I've got one on order.

The other problem is the magazine tube. Instead of doing it right with the dummy tube extension, they instead made an extra long tube and then crimped the top of it. Genius! G-d help you if you ever need to fix the spring and follower in there:
    View attachment 331342

The good news is, they SUPPOSEDLY take Nova extensions once you cut the extra bit of the tube off with a conduit cutter or similar. Just realize that this is a one-way operation unless you can make a snap ring work in it, or maybe a real Benelli nova nut. Personally, if I had assurances that the genuine M3 magazine tube would fit, that would probably be my personal preference - this is a one way operation no matter how you slice it.

Next stop is the range; gotta check functionality!

I have the ATI stock on my Tec 12. If I can find the thread, I will link it. There was someone, I think on AFRCOM that had a Tec 12, he may even be on here. He put an extension on. In my searching, I read that Benelli, as well as some Remington extensions, as the thread patterns MAY have switched at some point. That said, I tried the Benelli magazine cap from my M2 on my Tec 12 and it did not spin on, so I assume mine may be threaded for Remington extensions. I really like the Tec 12, it takes a bit of getting used to, to switch from semi to pump mode. My Tec 12's action is super slick. In pump mode, my bolt still locks back when it is empty. The charging handle is a tad thin for me, I'd want it a tad thicker, but it works well enough.

The big ARFCOM Tec-12 thread is here. First guy said the Mossberg extension worked; second guy said it was the Nova extension. TBH, I'd be somewhat shocked if the Mossberg extension was really the way to go, the Nova extension is known to fit a bunch of other Turkish shotguns as well. After I get the stock situation sorted out and the gun test-fired, the extension and follower are next on my list. The M3 has one less imported part than the Benelli M4 (no gas piston), so in theory a follower+stock swap is enough to get me to 922r compliance.

I have taken one for the team and have ordered the SJ Hardware "Turkish shotgun to 870" stock adapter. We'll see if it fits the Tec-12 (I suspect it will!). If it does, that's a pretty big improvement, since I can mount a Magpul stock at that point.

If I recall, the ATI stock, at least the one I bought, came with a bunch of adapters to fit several types of shotguns. It would be cool if I could get a Benelli adapter, and put a Comfortech stock on it. Yu should be able to mount a Magpul stock on it. I did have an AR stock on mine briefly, but found the ATI stock a tad more comfy.

    I remember that thread. I messaged Darink300zx either here, or on the AKFiles, I can't remember. I assume takedown of the Duo is same or similar to the Tec 12. Here's his video;

I really like the look of it with regular stock and extension. Theirs looks better than the Tec 12, especially the trigger guard

Being benelli inertia based dont these have a buffer tube? Will the 870 stock accomodate that? I mean i guess if it fits the 1100/1187 it would since those also have a buffer/bolt return spring.

Spring is around the mag tube.

SDS informed me at SHOT that these are discontinued due to poor sales. So if you want your M3 clone-alike, you should probably jump on them now while they're at clearance prices. I received my SJ Hardware adapter before I left for SHOT, so a project for next week will be seeing if it fits.

Battle Hawk Armory has them on sale for $287 right now. I don’t know if I’m going to risk it on these since the parts seem to be a bit more of a question mark for compatibility with the real M3, but they seem like really neat guns.

If I hadn’t just bought an optic and an Aridus CROM for my Mossberg 590A1 SBS yesterday, I might be inclined to buy one for all of $300 out the door.

I took off my stock today - 14mm socket with a 10" extension did the trick to remove the bolt. It was not torqued terribly hard, nor did it have any thread locker. The rear end of the Duo-Sys receiver looks a whole like every other Turkish shotgun out there, which is good news - the S&J Hardware adapter fit pretty well. It's not perfect, but it looks about on par with what they show on their Facebook page. Now I just need to hunt up a Magpul 870 stock and I should be good to go.

Bought an 870 stock and a Nordic Nova MXT nut. We'll see if the nut fits. If it does, I'll buy the extension and cut the magazine tube down after I'm satisfied that it's more or less functional. Looking forward to putting an SGA stock on this gun, I think it's gonna fit really nicely even with the extra inch the adapter puts on.

The Nordic MXT nut and the SJ hardware adapter work fine. Will do some test firing to verify it's functional, and then chop the tube so I can use the extension. Stock definitely is shorter than factory (which is good!), but could use a higher cheek riser to bring my eyes to the sights a little more easily. Easy enough to solve, and I just ordered the SGA "high" kit off Amazon.

Buy a piece of black kydex, heat it with a hair dryer over a broom handle and use sheet metal screws to hold it to the stock. If you slot the screw holes, you can adjust up and down. This is what me and some others have done to our Ruger 10/22's that have the black plastic stock on them. They work great.

If you want to buy one, there are a couple of guys selling kydex cheek combs on Flea bay.

Overkill for the SGA stock... Amazon sells the Magpul cheek riser kits for $15, which require no permanent alterations:
    https://smile.amazon.com/Magpul-Hunter-Cheek-Riser-Black/dp/B007TR4FUI/

It was pretty obvious that I needed the high kit... about .5-.75" would get my cheek where it needed to be. The other thing I am mulling over is the X22 buttpad assembly, which would lower my LOP another little bit. It's really not terrible as it is, but every bit helps.

That looks really nice. I think I am going to try to put a standard stock on my M3 clone eventually.

I'm looking forward to shooting this thing and seeing how the semi-auto function performs. Maybe Sunday when I go and test out my SDS S4 again with the new mag tube. :) Amazon claims that my high cheek riser kit came, so I will put it on and take a better picture tonight.

Not a huge fan of the Magpul stocks, are there other options?

In theory, the adapter will let you run any 870 stock. You may need to adjust the screw length, though. It comes with a screw specifically designed for the Magpul stock.

I received my high cheek riser set today. They helped tremendously, and I eventually wound up going with the .75 riser after some testing. It does a much, much better job of putting my eye behind the ghost ring, and probably would be acceptable with a reflex sight.
