May I add, in a caliber that will most likely disable your opponent quickly. A Ruger .22 semi auto pistol could meet the above requirements but fail to stop the attack on you until after you have been beaten to death.

Yes, a hit with a .22 is better then a miss with a .44 but it does you no good if you need to fire ten .22 rounds and the bad guy is still advancing.

It is common sense, but in the past there have been stories of police carrying a .25 auto to backup a .357.

it makes good sense if it's an unregistered .25 auto:innocent0

I carry either a K40 (Khar) or a plain old XD40.. The holster and a good belt are the key to comfort.... I use IWB holsters, a comp tac minataur for the K40 & the XD40 but also bought a Crossbreed Supertuck for the XD. The supertuck is much more comfy for me. I have pretty much migrated to strickty carrying the XD for a couple reasons... It conceals fairly well with the supertuck even under just a T shirt (not as well as the Khar though), just make sure it fits losse enough not to print and that it's long enough to not get caught behind the gun... I also like the extra round count of the XD over the Khar without having to carry an extra mag. I carry a cell phone, a folder and a flashlight in my pockets alreay for work so I'd already loaded up... I also shoot better with the XD over the Khar with less practice, I find with the Khar I need to concentrate much more on not pulling the gun when I pull the trigger I think because it's a little small for my hands. It (the Khar) does however group better than pretty much any other handgun I have including my 1911!!

Anyhow, that's my cent and a half, but like already said, it all comes down to what works best for you....

If I had the chance I would have bought the polymer Khar instead of the stainless version because I was not a fan of polymer at the time, but I am now...

Good point. I forgot to add, use a .380 at absolute minimum. I won't carry less than a 9mm personally.

Glock 26 loaded with +P Hollowpoints.

This one often rides in a Crossbreed IWB Supertuck Holster. I've CCW this rig for about 9 years. Due to holster wear, I have done the Scotchbrite polish on the slide, It really stands up well to holster wear. Rounded edges don't snag .She still looks good after many years of service. Thousands of rounds discharged without a single malfunction.

My second favorite is a Glock 32, same size as the Glock 19 but is chambered for the .357 SIG round.

The H&K P7 PSP has been carrried by German police for years. They have been trading them in to H&K who in turn are inspecting, grading, and selling them to local dealers for 1/2 their original cost. Look here I bought this German Lower Saxony police trade-in H&K P7 PSP for $525, which some folks say is one of the best semi-autos ever made. Read up on P7s; they are highly reliable and super accurate. They are still available from http://www.hkspecialiststore.com/pr...22&Page_Number=&Index_Seq=560&Home_Page=Index .

+1 there is no best carry pistol... there are a number of good choices though.

Personally, I have a few good carry guns.

I was really fond of my Springfield ultra compact .45 but it suffered feed problems with hollow points, and I traded it in. Had I got it running right, I would have kept it. It had 12 rounds of .45 ACP goodness, but rather heavy.

Currently my stable of carry guns starts with my Ruger LCP in .380, followed by the .40 cal Taurus PT140, my primary CCW is a Springfield XD in 9mm, and finally I have a Tokarev TTC and a Les Bauer .45 Compact as my full size and full power CCW guns.

Depending on where I am going and what I am doing dictates the type of CCW I carry. Normally I start with my 9mm XD, and should the situation dictate I select something else. The Taurus and Ruger are great where you need something discreet.

    one other thing to consider

In the event you use said tool for it's intended purpose you likely won't see it for a long time as it will be confiscated and who knows how it will be treated while it's gone. Think about this from a cost perspective. Do you want to give up a $1500 or more custom gun in these circomstances? For these reasons I like to keep my carry and HD tools under $600 or so. The above consideration is NOT an argument to go supercheap....just avoid super expensive...if this matters to you at all.

I'm tall and have large hands, so I don't care for the smallest models. Would you mind sharing your recommendation and what makes it better than the rest (or at least some)? I don't have a caliber preference (9mm at least), and anything with 10+ rounds works for me.

I'm buying an XDM 9mm now for fun, but think it may not be best for carrying.

    Appreciate your thoughts! :)

I like the LCP with the 25rnd mag

I know I drink the HK kool aid, but I really believe there is no question here. As stated by some other guys, the P7 series is hands down the best carry imo. I carry a p7m8 just because I am used to the american style mag release from carrying my uspc. If you can live with a heeler a regular p7 is fine and much less expensive. I've seen cdnn sell some very nice grade german trade ins for 5-600 bucks. If you absolutely need more than 8 rounds you can step up to a p7m13, its a little fat for my little hands. All the p7s are absolute tack drivers. The most accurate out of the box pistol I have ever shot. I also really like the squeeze cocker because it lets you have a relatively light trigger pull yet still be safe. No levers or safeties to fool with yet the chance of an accidental discharge is slim compared to standard sa or da guns with no safety. Plus it adds another safety dimension, if someone tries to grab your gun from you its gonna be pretty hard for them to figure it out or graze the trigger and get you. If you wanna try one let me know, I got a few p7 variants and would be happy to share:)

The real answer is whatever fits you best and meets the required criteria, as long as it is a good quality firearm.

    (Takes another drink)
When I'm feeling froggy I carry a LEM USPSD with my 32 rd. clip and a m2 light....lol, do you think anyone would notice?

I carry a Ruger LCP, most of the time. I carry a Glock 23 sometimes, but it is a PIA, even with a decent IWB holster. It is concealable in anything, and .380 with the right ammo is potent for a mouse gun. People get hung up on 1-shot-stop data, but who says you only need 1 shot? I'm not sure I understand why civilians get hung up on primary weapons and back-up weapons etc. With an extra mag I have 14 shots to do what I need to do. If that doesn't do the trick, I'm screwed.

I have been known to carry a variety, but the most carried are the Glock 26 and 21. 26 when I don't have much on to conceal it, and the 21 when I am wearing a jacket is no problem. Dressing to carry is the key, so just find a gun you will be effective with under pressure and go from there.

BINGO. I can conceal a Glock 22 year round. Pick a great gun, match it with a few high quality holsters and then make the tweeks you need to your wardrobe.

This! a Good holster is a must, and a GOOD gun belt.

I carry a fullsize USP Tactical and no one has ever noticed except when I notify L.E.O. during interactions with them.

I'm a huge fan of the Beretta Px4 Subcompact. Great for big hands, easy to conceal, and 13 round capacity (9mm version.) Little recoil, and brings it as well as a full size - almost.
