Look what happens when they stop the fare evaders:

    Notice :

This happened in Virginia , not DC where fair evasion has been decriminalized .

He wasn't charged for " carrying on subway " ( which is legal in Va ) , but for concealed w/o Permit .

In Charlotte, Possession of a firearm or other weapon is prohibited” by employees with the transit system, Cagle said. He said for a driver to be carrying a gun was a “dismissal violation.”

So the driver lives another day.... wonder how that would have worked-out in DC?

    You're correct about that.

Nobody in DC is interested in knowing or discussing the background crime rate/propensity of fare evaders vs paying customers....

I think the Data would make a number of people uncomfortable.

    Metro Ambassadors... JFC.

Metro is the latest transit agency to launch an ambassador program as leaders seek to tamp down on crime spikes without adding police

    ......

The ambassador program is modeled after others around the country, intended to boost security without hiring or deploying more police officers, who receive larger salaries and require months of training. Adding police also can be polarizing because of disproportionate arrests of Black passengers and what civil rights activists say are needless stops for questioning that can result in violent confrontations and arrests that can harm a rider’s record for years.

"Polarizing." They did the meme again:

    ......

Osorio received weeks of training to handle different crises or emergencies. If a shooting occurs, she should seek refuge in a station auxiliary room or kiosk. If violence or threats occur on a train, she is to herd passengers out at the next stop, hopefully isolating the problem onboard.

    Absolutely useless.

"Six people have been killed by violence in the bus and rail system so far this year, compared to none at this time last year. Aggravated assaults are up 21 percent year-over-year, while robberies have increased 127 percent."

Ignore the press release and WaPo article , and look at what actually on the ground .

Are Ambassadors better than equal number of Transit Police ? No .

But if the police staffing is stable , adding a significant number of people with eyes , ears , and radios is better than not .

Kind of like additional Station Managers , that are riding instead of just at stations .

"Feinberg said she sought to strike a balance of boosting security amid a spate of subway assaults and killings while avoiding divisive issues stemming from fare evasion enforcement."

I mean, there is no clear distinction between the two of these which needs prioritizing!

It's a drop of water in the desert.

When they're in the stations, they're doing the job(s) that the station managers and Transit Police should be doing. When they're on the trains, they’re doing the job(s) that the Transit Police should be doing.

Make the station managers do these jobs in the stations instead of surfing the internet all day in the booths. Hire more Transit Police so they can do their jobs more effectively in the stations and on the trains.

WMATA is in total denial of what's necessary to solve the rampant crime and fare jumping. Some yellow shirted person with a radio will do absolutely nothing to stop someone with a weapon or someone jumping the fare gate.

They're willing to endanger and sacrifice your life on the altar of wokeness without a moment's hesitation. Don't be grateful for any of this. Be insulted and enraged.

You're not supposed to notice this. Stop it.

This never should have been in the article in the first place. AI must have glitched out.

Fare jumping is no longer illegal in D.C. . Can't be stopped , that train has already left .

No rowdy group of "youths" is going to see a yellow shirt and say: "we'd better bounce out of here" or "act right". All this is going to do is result in more calls to an understaffed Transit Police force which won't be able to arrive in time anyway.

Only an "intellectual" could come up with a "solution" this stupid.

    It's a $50 Civil Fine in D.C.

Under her proposed bill, offenders must give officers their name and address (not necessarily an ID). If not, they can be detained and possibly face a fine of $100, twice the current $50 fare evasion fine in D.C.
