The 20-rnd mags for my SKS's that I ordered last month from Sportsman Guide have started to arrive. Got 3 today; black, Tapco. I had ordered them, despite their backordered status indicating delivery around March 2013, hoping for sooner and it looks like that decision is paying off. I've done a couple other orders since.

Maybe this means that the magazine issue is loosening up a bit. ;)

Sks's should not have removeable mags. They are a work of art in original form.

I agree ... but I have to confess that I did buy a drum for one of mine. I didn't have to make any mods at all to the rifle (some adjustment needs to be made to the drum), and it takes under 5 minutes to switch back and forth between the two mags.

Why did I do that? Probably just because there are some politicians saying that I shouldn't be allowed to. I'm obstinate that way. :patriot:

If you use the detachable mags, wouldn't you also have to change out a few more parts to be 922r compliant?

Yes, you are correct. I made my Maadi AK 922r compliant with a new handguard, pistol grip, gas piston, and trigger group (3). I wanted to add a side folder "wire" stock, so I had to find another part to replace- thus the gas piston.
I could have skipped the gas piston (hard part)- but I couldn't legally use imported mags. I didn't like that, so I added a made in USA gas piston as well. Now I can use imported mags legally.

I just got some 20 rd Maryland legal mags from Tapco and had to refer to a youtube vid on how to install them. Only a few steps and you can return it to original in a matter of minutes if you chose.
